if only there was a ps3 controller for the xbox, id be happy.. i've seen the mod, but it's not exactly easy to do :(

hehe...funny man...You see, i bought the Makro special (40" Sony bravia full HD LCD TV), and I want to get the PS3 for the games AND the blue ray drive, so that I can not only play games in 1080p quality, but watch blue ray movies at 1080p. Thats where the xbox won't cut it for me...

Bluray drive for you pc + nice gfx card? Bluray movies? Never ever seen one yet

You get 3rd party controllers that look like the ps3 controller logitec & the like

skipping past tne stupid replies and getting back to the topic of the original poster.

DaBump, try the http://www.ps3za.co.za site. On the marketplace you might even
find a second hand PS3 with few months guarantee left, not that you need it as
much as like with some other console(s).

If you want a new one the PS3ZA members can tell you where to get a special if
one is running. Also have a look at this link, it will give you an idea of what you
will pay for a new PS3, also keep in mind that shops create different bundles
like throwing in an extra controller, or extra games, etc whch will effect the price.

I'd just caution you on Blu-Ray. There's so much undeserving hype about it. At the end of the day, your watching the same movies with the only benefit being a fraction less blurriness with can either be upscaled out or flatly ignored. It's definitely not worth R4k in my book.

There's also the issue that the PS3's BR player is region locked with no way of undoing it. Just as a DVD player that's a huge issue for me.

If you're looking for something to show off your telly just get some great looking games, or download some HD clips. Alternatively DSTV is about to launch their HD channels, so that's probably more useful anyway. HD is good for sports and games (fine unpredictable detail) not for movies in my books.

Chose a games console for the games (friends, online etc whatever).

In a year or so better Standalone BR players will be available at half the price. In 2 years it'll probably have been superseded by UHD or something anyway.

Makro had the best price of about R4799 for jus the console.
I went to Game/Reggies/CNA/IC/Musica.

All depends on what your used to - I've been using PS controllers since PSX days and wouldn't chance anything on them. I hate the xbox controller - its too cumbersome.

You still shop in the kiddies section too? ;) (Just joking!)

Seriously though, PS controller is just too small for me, it's designed for small Japanese and childrens (Japanese Childrens?) hands, they give me craps after about 1/2 hours play. the 360 pad I can groove for hours on end, but it is really just a matterof personal ergonomics.

As for the Wii controller is incredibly accurate. It's the most incredible accurate simulation of acting like a complete goofball to achieve what can be done by the press of a single button.
