bwana - yes they have... Im not sure about the bandwidth it uses... and also I have not used it myself yet.

I cant remember if its on the new version of their software (they have a new one with sms & so on) or on a plug-in... either way, its free software and free to use.... + its a skype product. :D
If you have any links or more info I'd be really interested.

We use a mixture of TightVNC, RealVNC, Ultr@VNC, Remote Desktop and pcAnywhere.

Remote Desktop excels in the sense that when the line drops all you need to do is reconnect, and after a minute or so it will reconnect itself to the existing Remote Desktop session.

pcAnywhere is nice because you have a list of running hosts.

Ultra, Real and TightVNC is free and open, that's what I like...

Ultr@ - the shortcut buttons with which you can send CAD, call up the Start menu and auto-scaling. And file-transfers as well... (like pcAnywhere does)

TightVNC - for being a miser when bandwidth is very tight... :)

So there is advantages in one product, and not all of them are the same, although they do the same thing.

The rest except for Ultr@ and pcAw sucks when it comes to transferring files, although Remote Desktop allows you to copy and paste screenshots or selected text between the RD session and your local computer.

Choices... choices... choices... aaaaAAAARRRRG!

Hi, quite a few relpies.

I use Remote Administrator 2.1 for all my Remote Desktop needs.
From home I have Mtn 3G connecting to a 512Kbps IS Adsl at the office.
Works like a charm, Real VNC lacks screen update rate has some delays in refreshing the screen, where Radmin is smooth as silk.

Remote Desktop (visions of flame war starting as it's Micro$oft)

Reasons are quite simple, it's basically Terminal Server (cut down), authentication is the same as your windows password, if you're on a network any group authorized for access can get in.

compared to VNC, RD looks a good deal better at rates of 64kb, although 192kb is really needed for a decent session, at 512kb it sometime is hard to tell the difference between a local and remote session. at 1024kb, the way I'm doing this now, I don't even notice I'm on a terminal session anymore (unless I load heavy graphics).

D

nebody tried dameware :) ? kewlio ... even if client not installed on remote pc, if u have admin rights on pc you can install and connect. have not tried it outside of corporate network. i have seen radmin in action i think it performs well with limited bandwidth, also the file transfer is nice. *vnc also 1 of my free;) favourites.

Terminal Services is king, remote admin works damn well aswell. Careful if ya using Symantec Antivirus V10, it sees remote admin as a virus and although some may think , there is no way around this - is this just a bug or does it have something to do with the fact that remote admin is a direct competitor to Symantec's PC Anywhere (****e software).

Wish I can start using all these programs / suggestions. :(

Installed ADSL today, and now I can't ping the server from outside the network. (over the Internet). Port forward, etc is setup onto the DG834GT modem, and I can authenticate and logon to the server, I get an IP address, but no pinging. When I did the port forward with the Sentech Modem / Gigabyte Router, I could ping the our server from over the Internet.

So now I still need to sort that out. I'm stumped. Any ideas? W2003SBS...

See if ICMP redirect is enabled in the hardware firewall, it stops pinging :)

I am a Remote Admin fan. Have been using it for many years and never had problems. Is not very bandwidth friendly. Using 3G HSDPA I use about 1 mb every 4 min, but that is on a high quality colors and refresh rate.
