Best Robot Vacuum

I just placed my order on it too, thanks for sharing!

Been pondering about it the whole day and then asked Gemini to do some research for me and compare it to the X20+. It basically said buy the N20 Pro now because the price is so good

I have a Gen 1 Xiaomi Vacuum that's dedicated to my office space because the battery has had its days and it can only do 1 room now (it's over 6 years old and was used 3 times a week). For the rest of the house I have a S10+ that I got 2 years ago and is still going strong.

I think the mopping on the S10+ is better (rotary pads) than the N20 Pro but it doesn't have a dock so emptying it after each use is always a chore.

I'll be retiring the Gen 1 Xiaomi and moving the S10+ to my office. The N20 Pro will take over vacuuming the rest of the house.

10. Synthesis and Final Recommendations

The decision matrix for the South African consumer hinges on a single question: Is the primary goal vacuuming or mopping?

10.1 The Verdict on the Ecovacs N20 Pro Plus (R4,000)

At this promotional price, the N20 Pro Plus is a market-distorting product. It offers specifications (8,000 Pa suction, dToF LiDAR, Auto-Empty Station) that effectively render every other robot under R8,000 obsolete.

  • Pros: Unmatched suction per Rand, zero consumable costs (bagless), excellent battery life, effective anti-tangle brush for pets.
  • Cons: Mopping is not autonomous (requires manual wash), obstacle avoidance is basic, emptying the bin is dusty.
  • Conclusion: If you view it primarily as a self-emptying vacuum that has the bonus ability to mop when you have time to supervise it, it is an incredible bargain. It is the best vacuuming robot available for the price, by a wide margin.

10.2 The Verdict on the Xiaomi X20+ (R9,000+)

The Xiaomi X20+ is a lifestyle product. It delivers on the promise of "set and forget" floor care. The ability to wash its own mops and lift them over carpets makes it a true hybrid cleaner.

  • Pros: Full automation (wash/dry/refill/empty), superior mopping (rotary), mixed-floor capability (lift), stable app.
  • Cons: Significantly higher price, ongoing cost of bags, requires regular tank maintenance.
  • Conclusion: If budget allows, this is the superior experience. It removes the daily friction of floor care entirely. However, it is not 3x better at vacuuming than the N20 Pro Plus.

10.3 Final Strategic Recommendation

Buy the Ecovacs N20 Pro Plus immediately. The R4,000 price point is an anomaly that likely represents a stock clearance or aggressive market share acquisition. The value proposition is simply too high to ignore. While the mopping requires manual intervention, the R5,000–R8,000 saving compared to the X20+ allows for the purchase of spare parts, extended warranties, or even a second robot for another floor of the house.

Who should skip the deal? Only users with a high budget who absolutely refuse to touch a dirty mop pad, or those with complex homes mixing tile and carpet in every room who require the mop-lifting feature for a single-pass clean, should bypass the N20 Pro Plus in favor of the Xiaomi X20+. For everyone else, the N20 Pro Plus is the definitive choice for the current market moment.

It's fascinating reading people's long term experiences with these things.
Thanks for that.

Literally the only issue with my Xiaomi 1C after all these years (after replacing the battery) is the water tank started falling apart and water seeped into the little motor pump.... however, I think it's my own fault, instead of always just using clean water I f**ed around over the years by using alcohol based solutions and the likes, I even used hot water at some point just out of interest (duuuuh!).

It worked surprisingly longer that it should have, but obviously it wasn't made for that, so now the tank seams itself finally warped and we're done here. It's going to hopefully have many more years in my upstairs bedroom and living room as just a normal vacuum. Looking forward to that. Got tired of stuffing pillows underneath seats so it doesn't eat the cables when I take it to a location it doesn't know, now I can just reset the map and retrain it for upstairs only while using the exclusion area option to set some simple keep out zones.

I'm used to just lining up the mopping pads for my 1C and letting it do, say, a "normal" first round then "silent" rounds after that for the mopping.
Those rotating pads and self-cleaning would be an awesome upgrade, but like I said, damn man, that feature would cost me double... I'm a lazy d**s, but not that lazy.
I have this innate aversion to things that are cool, but give me the vibe of future problems to come.

Rotating pads and a fancy cleaning station sounds like something that's bound to fail on me at some point for whatever reason.
R4K for a robot vac that now has basically the same features I'd expect and then some, when I paid R4.5K for my Xiaomi 5+ years ago is a win.

Additional win: Apparently the Deebot's play well with Home Assistant integration, something my old Xiaomi cannot do to this day.

I also couldn't resist - looking forward to not having to empty out the Xiaomi after every run. Too many hairy dogs:)

I see there's a Home Assistant integration - hopefully take care of any long term app issues.

Also, Temu does the spares as well for way less than TA.

Does anybody have experience with the nannyvac.co.za website or shop?

Never seen a Xiaomi one in any of the top lists (Youtube, Rtings)
I see what you mean. Strange.

But here it makes a list:

We have a Ingco stick vacuum, which is very nice not having to drag around with cables etc but it's suction power sucks.
Went down a rabbit hole because I'm tempted with the Xiaomi over just getting a stronger stick vacuum (Dyson or xiaomi g20 max)

This is the most honest review I found so far regarding these machines, which means mopping may not be used.

So now, is it worth the R4k premium vs something like this?

I got the Ecovacs Deebot N20 mentioned earlier in this thread and Robogem is apparently a lower tier from Ecovacs.

I had 2 Xiaomi vacuums prior to the Ecovacs and the Ecovacs is absolutely stupid compared to the Xiaomis. They look great on paper but the software is horrible and they don't release any new firmware. It needs a remap at least once a month and many a times it skips areas during a full clean. Sometimes it forgets where it is mid clean and then goes back to the dock.

When it works it's great but it's not a confgure once and forget about it experience. I also recommended the N20 to a family member back when it was on special and they reported the same experience. If you check on Reddit, even their higher end models have the same issues. I don't think the Robogem would be any better since it's a more "budget" focussed vacuum compared to Ecovacs.

At sub R4k they are good value for an auto-emptying vacuum but don't expect hassle free operation, you will need to babysit the thing. The Xiaomis have dropped in price in the last 6 months and knowing what I know now, I would honestly just pay the extra few K for something more reliable.

Not watching the video since I own it already...but what do you mean mopping may not be used?

That is a ridiculously good price for the Xiaomi and I would be more than happy to pay that and buy it again for less.

Robogem looks cheap and nasty, but that's purely on looks I haven't seen or used it but I can almost guarantee the software will be the biggest failing as with all these overnight brands.

The real benefit with these things is that you will run them more frequently that you would clean manually and therefore your house stays cleaner overall.

Spot cleaning will almost always require a human element...BUT may not be necessary in the first place due to the frequency you run the robot.

****

Watched the silly moany video and the fail seems to be that he hasn't actually mapped out the carpets so it hasn't lifted the mops at all if that was your concern.

The more expensive Xiaomi has carpet detection and does this automatically but that didn't seem worth it at all.

I say that as someone with only like 2 carpets in the house and anything else like bathroom mats and such I just pick up and move out the way.

Don't know if this guy went out of his way to have a moan or just lives in absolute filth, but I can happily say my house is far cleaner for having the Xiaomi X20 in it and running at least once a week on full cycle but the real benefit for me is every night after I finished cooking I just run it through the kitchen and that's something that would never have happened otherwise.

Those are also some extremely stupid chairs that isn't the norm for anyone...not sure what he expected to happen.

Also weird he keeps mentioning cleaning liquid and following the instructions....because every one of these I've seen says NOT to use any cleaning liquid even though I do as well.

Ye I saw that somewhere but it still doesn't help trying to compare exact models.

Agreed, but then I look at those "local best robot vacuums" and I cringe because they are all either marketing budget pieces or just plain trash.

Can't go wrong with the Xiaomi on the local market I reckon.

Only thing I wish it had was native Homekit/Matter support.
