Hey guys, I previously got help on building my current rig. Its sweet AF! Loving life playing BF4.

Although I need a screen as the one I have now is a shocker. So I want to buy a 23 inch Full HD monitor but there are so many to choose from  I have done some research and realized that for gaming under 5ms response time is desirable.

Im based in Cape Town and have been looking at Wootware and Takealot. If you guys could advise me on whats the best monitor at the moment for gaming and the occasional movie under 3500 that would be sweet! Looking around at incredible corruption etc I have only found monitors with response times of 7 and 8ms mainly

Thank in advance!

Hi

Try landmarkpc.co.za? (Based in Cape town) Asus 23 inch

Always good to do research first. Asus model numbers?

You could also try searching with http://www.pricecheck.co.za/

Why not go for a 24" if you are going to spend 3.5k?

I have only owned Samsung and Viewsonic monitors and they work great, but always a good idea to try them all :P

Hope this post helps.

Good luck.

Another thing to look at is (Depending on which graphics card you have):

Does your graphics card support G-SYNC? http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync
Where can you buy a monitor that supports G-SYNC and a G-SYNC module? http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/where-to-buy-g-sync-monitors-and-modules

Hey man thanks for the reply. I have a Radeon R9280x card which I think does support Gsync just not sure if AMD calls it that. I got advised by the guys at Woot on this monitor

http://www.wootware.co.za/lg-23mp55hq-23-ips.html

Not too sure, the low price does worry me. Also I googled it and aparently its finicky to set up

I love my Dell UltraSharp U2412M. It's 24-inch IPS with backlit LED, 1920 x 1200 res which is 16:10 (!) aspect ratio. 8ms (gray to gray) typical response time although I personally notice no ghosting or other problems while gaming.

Takealot has it for R3,366.

It should work fine, you can pick up 23" monitors for roughly 2k. http://www.pcint.co.za/en/components#421 (Based in Randburg)

But if you have the budget, buy a proper one as it's not something you buy every day.

In my mind I'm leaning towards Dell, Samsung, Asus etc.

A good idea would be to read some reviews on specific models.

You could also watch some youtube video reviews.

Google is your friend.

Yeah I read some reviews on that LG and they are quite mixed from "The stand is flimsy" to "Its a mission to calibrate" which isnt desirable. Thing is, it does check the boxes in a few aspects:

23" AH-IPS Display
- Dual smart solution ( as 2 screens with 2 task bars )
- Full HD (1920x1080)
- Contrast Ratio: 5000000:1
- Response time: 5ms
- D-Sub & HDMI & Headphone Out
- 75x75mm VESA wall-mountable
- 3 Year Warranty
- Gaming Grade IPS monitor for high quality images and low response time

also interested in getting a monitor, any other places in Jhb to look at?
i've checked wootware and rebeltech, anything else?

It won't do any sort of adaptive refresh technology for videogames. The older GCN generations will only do a low refresh rate for video content at 23.967Hz, while anything from the GTX 650Ti Boost and upwards on Nvidia's side does work with G-Sync. You need a Radeon R7 260X, R9 285, R9 290, R9 290X or R9 295X2 to take advantage of DP1.2a+ or FreeSync (same tech, FreeSync monitors are just verified by AMD that they conform to the standard).

I'll punt the Dell P2214H here again because I'm really loving mine at the moment. IPS, almost no lag, 1080p, brilliant stand and it comes with Displayport, which feels and looks smoother than DVI or HDMI.

There are also some gaming monitors out there that are close to your price range, but they're quite expensive. LG's 24GM77-B is a 144Hz TN panel, but it has a strobed backlight and possible Displayport 1.2a+ support (I'm waiting on confirmation from LG). Closer to your price range, though, nothing really has it better than the Ultrasharp U2412M. Its old tech, but still fantastic to own.

Just spend the extra bucks and never upgrade your monitor again for 10 years:
