Best small UPS for ONT & Router?

The time has come...Ive been looking at things Gizzu type UPS things for the router and ONT during loadshedding. Im just not sure about the Amp's as some of the UPS's seem to pump out too many. My ONT is 12v at 0.5A and the router (Zyxel) is 12v at 1.5Amps. What will suit my needs? Im looking at 1 to 2 grand mark.
It would also be good if I could power our wifi extender but that may need something diffferent as its one of those Small plugs that goes straight into an elsectrical output. That said, Im probably looking at two ups systems. I imagine the wifi extender will use minimal juice.
TIA for any advice. I did kinda search the forum but couldnt find anything but Id be surprised if this has not been covered 100 times already...in which case just point me to the thread!

Gizzu works like an absolute bomb. Just get a longer y-split cable (which you can also buy on Takealot at the same time). Trust me, you don't need anything else.

Use it for my Openserve fibre ont and power hungry ASUS TUF AX5400 router and it lasted just shy of 6 hours.

Costs R1000, the same size from Gizzu is R300 more on Takealot.

Thanks @NR7 that looks good & Im with webafrica. I also see that the ampage just needs to be greater than or equal to the devices, its the voltage that needs to be on point.

All of them will work it all comes down to what voltages you need and for how long you want to keep them running.

Prices these days went up a lot for these UPS's.

Have a look at takealot, geewiz, communica ,everyshop ,uniterm to check prices

Don't worry about the amps the device will draw what it needs. Just the voltage and polarity of the dc jack off the device you want to be powered matters.

For the wifi extender these DC ups's wont work since they don't output 220 volts. Rather get a better router or mesh system for better wifi range and coverage.

Depends on voltage and current draw but my gut says you'll need something beefier.

@NR7 thanks for the advice. Got the Netogy and its working fine (good for R999) running Router and ONT. The Netogy drops to about 75% after 2 hrs so perfect. (Very short cables with it). Then I also got a cheap ass UPS, KSTAR 1000VA. This works fine too and is running the wifi extender & wife's 27" monitor. She plugs her Apple laptop in when it gets low. We hiting 50% after 2.30hr with that load. Perfect for a cheap(ish) solution.

But it also mentions the max allowable power is 18W and 12V x 1.5A = 18W so it should work? Don't want to start a fire

No. That's a lead acid battery. Get a device with LiFePO ideally, if not LiNMC.


If you can afford it, overprovision. I run each device on a seperate mini-UPS, ONT and two Wifi routers. Ellies Cube Mini is my favourite. I think I ran my router over 72hours once by mistake because I switched it off at the back before realising the thing was almost dead.

Good luck with starting that fire.

Do you use all 600 functions of your router at the same time, with all 64 wifi clients connected, maxing their bandwidth, all 5 LAN ports going at full tilt? No? Cool, then you will be fine.

Fitted a 12volt 8amp /hour gel battery

With stage 6 and trickle charging that won't last long. Maybe if you run one device on it. But for the price you could have a Li solution.
