It's very sad how the BlackBerry image has been devalued by their expansion into the 'gutter' market. They're not as prestigeous as they used to be. It would be like Mercedes bringing out the equivilent of a Tazz. Ruins the brand image.

You never have to get into the rooting/flashing stuff. Look at these phones, the best choice is down to personal preference so don't listen to people who simply tell you one of them is the best:
Samsung Galaxy S
HTC Desire HD
HTC Dezire Z
iPhone 4
Nokia N8
Blackberry Torch (since you want a good screen, this one might not be an option since it has the lowest resolution here).

If those are out of your price range, look at the LG Optimus One.

Aaaaag no man people!! Symbian?? Blackberry OS?? next thing you guys will suggest is a bloody black & white screen!!

What I actually meant is, look at the Galaxy S; I read some comments about lag, and that doing a or b or c will fix that.
The Desire HD; awesome phone but issues with video capture but soon an app/update etc will fix that.
The Nokia N8 and Symbian with it's bad image, ........ Okay nothing can fix their bad smartphone image

That's what I mean - out of the topshelf smartphones (I want spectacular), which are the best out the box, no 'waiting for updates/get this rom' needed.

Please, don't lead me down the iPhone route - I drive a Kia for heaven's sake, I have an image to protect!

A nokia 3310 is a standard phone! Go big or go home!

Hehehe, I actually had one 8 years ago (I think, it was LONG ago). Have a much disliked 5800 at the moment.
