Best steak ?

Another vote for the Grillhouse in Sandton (Alice Lane) - try the fillet on the bone (half basted, half pepper crust) together with a nice bottle of Warwick trilogy and you will feel as if you've arrived in heaven. :)

Alpine. It's been a while since I ate there, but I remember the steak as being great.

Checkers.
Braai it on a hot fire, just add some salt and pepper. Medium rare.

Checkers' steakhouse classic is amazing for the price (R135/kg for ribeye), but lets be honest, it does not compare to the much more expensive ribeye you get at a good butchery.
As for making your own, mine isn't as consistent as the best restaurants, but I can grill or even pan fry an amazing steak that can match or exceed the steaks at most restaurants.
I am a big fan of salt + pepper + garlic powder while waiting for the steak to get to room temp before cooking. Just amazing. I can make decent chips as a side, but actually prefer veg, and most sauces detract from the steak.

O'Galitos at Centurion Mall.
Lunchtime menu has a rump steak dish with cheese and mushroom sauce for R79.
Medium rare, just awesome.
Smokedaddys in Cedar square. Simarly priced and amazing taste

Certain Pick n Pay stores sell Excellent cuts of steak. Porterhouse, 2 decent sized, thick cuts for R80. Can't remember the R/kg.
Anyways, on a hot pan at home, with butter, 3min each side, season with salt and pepper only. Delish...
I make my own cheese and mushroom sauce.

Buy a fillet. Get braai sauce. Put in a bowl overnight. Let it soak.

Braai it and grind fresh pepper corns over it and also baste once each side. Also only turn once.

Half the price. Twice as good as most places

Philistine...

Buy some pukka 3-4cm ribeyes, salt and pepper and gooi them on a fsck hot grill or cast iron griddle and baste with butter. Super quick and cheaper than steakhouse.

If you cook it past medium you burnt it and can give it to the dog.

Just grill it, and cover with Robertson's steakhouse sauce while grilling. Grill it to medium and cut into blocks.

then dice cabbage finely and with olive oil, fry it a little. add balsamic vinegar (not much) and add bit of sugar.

Take rootie and put in plate, add the cabbage on top and the medium cooked steak and serve.

You can grate some salt and pepper on top and some ina paarman hot spices.

Dude, with your Latino sounding username I would have figured you for a porra, lotsa garlic, birds-eye chilli, blandish red wine, olive oil and bay-leaves. (Don't get me wrong, I love porra food). I'm really surprised at the cabbish thing though, are you a "woke" or "reformed" porra?:ROFL::ROFL:

I am doing this on braaiday next week except the fillet part (>R200/kg) so i bought a rump steak at R99/kg and started marinating it now for 6 days in Jimmys Sauce in Tupperware in fridge :)
