I'm going to set up smart DNS and wanted to know what others are using for streaming UK channels - Sky news, ITV, etc.
I just want to migrate from average experience to great experience if it exists. I've considered getting an NVidia shield mostly because I assume it'll have the most support, but am also considering:

Apple TV, Mi Box....

Anyone have experience with streaming UK TV from an Apple box?

I’d imagine the UK TV apps depends on where your App Store account is set. If it’s South Africa then I’m pretty sure won’t get them. Same with the Fire Stick, you need a British Amazon account to run on that for the apps unless you can sideload them somehow.

Not sure about Fire Stick, but vanilla Android box should be easy to change the play store location. Not sure about Apple TV tho.

Just create an account with a UK address

@lkpat - I use an Apple TV zero complaints.

Ah perfect, that's what I wanted to hear. So they're not region locked or anything...

Nope. I created an Apple account with a Uk address. Signed into the App Store on the Apple TV and bobs your uncle; all UK apps there. GetFlix helps me with actual streaming.

Any idea what the diffs between these are?

Second, more expensive one is apparently "On special" but with A12 CPU vs A15 on the top one. Confused...

Yeah the second is slightly slower with a better remote. And the first one slightly faster with a worse remote. (Even though they show the same remote)

The silver remote is the newer one as pictured and waaaay better than the older remote.

You won’t notice the speed difference. I’d go for the second one.

Got it, thanks. Good to know. Will I miss 128Gb storage if I get 64? I'm thinking just for streaming really.

Most definitely not. I have the 4k 64gb version and space has never been an issue even with the odd game loaded.

Unless you’re doing more than streaming and the odd game - you’re wasting money with ac128gb version.

Exactly what I was thinking. Ta!

First one is newer, smaller and without a fan. Also comes without ethernet.

Yeah, true. Though i never use my Ethernet WiFi works fine even with 4k streaming. I think the size is not relevant when it sits on a TV stand. I also don’t hear the fan in mine that I forget it has one.

But you’ll be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two when using both side by side.

I have my shiny new apple TV box. I tried logging in with my (old) iTunes account and can use it but I'm trying to change to a UK address and it want's a UK payment method. What did you use? Should I perhaps create a new account from scratch in the UK with no payment method?

Ta muchly!

Congrats!

Yeah that’s what I did. Just created a UK one. I also created a US one.

Ah coolio. What are the practical implications of having two? Can you have both set up on the same box, or do you sign out and sign in again? Also, do you lose access to UK apps when signed in to the US one?

You can only have one signed in account. But you can sign on UK account just for the App Store. So open the App Store and sign in there. Not in settings.

When you sign out of the UK account - your UK apps still work. You just need to sign in again to Uk account to update them.

Ah epic news. Thanks @Priapus
...never feels normal calling someone that

Wow... so as typical, apple TV is a little like a bunch of other apple devices in that you can't set it up as a standalone system. It needs a PC, iPhone or Mac to set it up. Their excuse is that you have to agree to T's and C's LOL. You agree to T's and C's all along the way, but I had to install iTunes on my PC to allow my iCloud user to be used in iTunes and therefore the iStore. Quite bizarre. But it's done. My first run of the iStore switched me back to SA and I had to change it again in settings...

Now to configure my DNS for Getflix....
