Which tablet is the best buy at the moment with all the heritage (aka braai) day specials? Size doesn't really matter in this instance but I would prefer 3G. Tablets will be used mostly for watching kids series and some games.

The Telefunken 10" is still about R999 at Hifi corp, from the spec sheet it seems to be the best.

The latest Vodacom smart tab, think it's 2. It's 7". Not network locked. I bought my daughter the 10" Powertab, just over R1k. Well worth it, so far plays everything she throws at it. She makes phone calls and everything.

Just remember when buying a cheap device like this make sure the local support is good if something breaks it can be repaired easily. without having to buy a new one

Have bought two of the Vodacom Power Tab 10" tablets as Christmas gifts. Very happy with them so far. The screen resolution is better than the Telefunken at 1280X800. I have tested the video quality against a much more expensive 1080p Lenovo tablet at Incredible Connection and I found the Power Tab 10 to be very similar. You can get the screen protectors for R60 as well as a TPU gel case for R150 from Dion Wired or a leather folder type cover from Jay-GoGo at China Mall for R150. Woolworths currently has a special on the 7" Vodacom Smart Tab 2 including keyboard for R899.

You are a bit late for Heritage Day ... that was months ago ... but I've been looking at the Vodacom tablets for my daughter. Seems to be the best value for under R1K.

@beans100: I might just pick up several of those PnP cell/tablet offers as the R150 PnP vouchers make them very good value.

Not sure if this any good, but it's at game and today only....

We decided to get vodacom tab 2 from pick n pay. Getting 150 back made this the best option I think.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

The Game offer is also very decent. The Smart Tab 2 comes with Marshmallow and 3G while the Samsung Tab A comes with Lollipop (I think) and WiFi only (no 3G) but presumably a better build/screen quality. If you have a PnP Smart Shopper card you can also get an additional 1% back on the Smart Tab 2 and 6 Stikeez (need to add something for R1 to reach R900). Two very good offers!
