Hi all,

I'm currently on MWEB but their throttling policies are really pissing me off. On my 2mb line once I use a fairly small 70GB of data I'm throttled, and my internet starts crawling and sites such as Twitch.tv and YouTube become unusable.

When I originally signed up they told me there was ZERO throttling, only shaping, and now I'm looking to change.

Can anyone tell me what the best uncapped ISP is out there right now? I'd like whoever has the least draconian usage policies :(

FWIW, I don't even consider myself to be a big downloader.

I've been using G Connect for the last 3 months - no problems so far
Current usage is 175GB on a 6MB line with 2 concurrent connections
On a 3 star rating

The premium MWEB 2Meg has a throttling limit at 200gigs.

AFAIK it's significantly more expensive though. I'm not really looking to download huge amounts, I'd say the max I'd ever go in a month will still be under 100GB.

70GB is just a little too low, and I don't want to deal with this crappy internet every month :(

Thanks Nimz, my only potential issue is that you tend to get much higher throttling limits the faster your line speed, and I'm rocking the pauper line atm ;)

I am using Afrihost Unshaped Uncapped Business 2Mbs for R399 a month and it is worth every penny.
It just works... all day, everyday.
None of this star rating, office hours throttling, after hours download queue.
So far it is the best ISP ADSL data account I have ever had.

do yourself a favor and LEAVE MWEB they are rubbish, i use MTN BUSINESS uncapped 4mb line, they only throttle or shape on P2P sharing not on usage. there is also a brilliant way to get around companies that use this policy. Get a VPN and your speed stays full all the time.:)

Or just use Afrihost/Axxess business and not deal with that crap.

We use an Openweb Gold 4meg account to a household of 7 internet people. We do 200 gigs per month no issues

We do also offer a 2Mb premium package with a threshold of around 200Gb

The 2Mb premium data only is R369

The 2Mb premium all inclusive is R509

Two options:
Openweb Gold Power (one you can actually use during day time)
Afrihost Business.

The data price is almost double what I'm paying now, for no bonus speed.

Considering when I signed up you guys told me there was NO throttling, and no one notified me that throttling had been implemented (whenever it was, if it wasn't already all along), I'd say that's a pretty crappy deal.

You're asking me to pay double for something I was offered with my original deal. Poor form.

Hi Subversion, in August last year we have sent out notification that we will be changing the way we enforce our AUP.

Oh really?
Shall we have such a mail pasted here?

You know as well as I do that this is what happened:
1) Test throttler, but call it the shaper.
2) Put throttle into full action on woman's day.
3) Customers wonders WTF is going on because no notices was sent out part that mail calling everyone an abuser.

I'll just pop this one in here

Yeah, MWEB used to be great but it seems like shady doublespeak all the time now. Quite over it.

Just seems like every ISP I look into I'm seeing negative feedback or anecdotal stories which frightens me. Maybe there aren't any that are all that great?
