Best value smartphone under R1000

So I want to get a 2nd phone to use with a Telkom R70/pm x 24 contract to make use of their unlimited Telkom to Telkom calls feature.

Any recommendations?

From my quick search the Netsurfer Viper seems to be the best option in terms of price/specs, any one have one?

Their priority line shipping is Aramex and usually like 4-5 working days to be in your hand.

That one I linked will set you back like R1037 including Aramex courier to your door and supports all Telkom frequencies from 2G to 4G. 2GB RAM and quad core cpu so should be relatively fast too. If you plan on using it for voice only I'm not sure if a 2G phone is better maybe a 3G phone at least unless you plan on forcing MTN roaming 24/7 then a 2G only device might work well.
 
Thanks for that option cavedog. The Netsurfer Viper also seems to be 4G compatible so it should work on the whole Telkom network right?

Am I right in saying then that the only advantage of the Elephone is a slightly bigger battery, an extra gig of RAM and a fingerprint reader?
 
This Doogee range is for nuts, not impressed. Nokia 1 or check Pep store.

Below a thousand. Don't get it, it's not worth it, or at least the ones running full Android. Safe a bit more or sell your mom's furniture and get something better.

Nokia 1, Huawei Y3(2018) or a good second phone
