I've been chatting to the guys at various of the local favourites in terms of ADSL ISP's - unfortunately none of them seem to be VAT registered and i have a rather picky client wanting to claim back the VAT portion on his ADSL subscription. This is his current excuse for sticking with TelkomInternet

Any suggestions?

WebAfrica is VAT registered.

Axxess is also VAT registered although I would suggest you go with WebAfrica.

WA is SAIX based - right?

Let me clarify my question a little - any IS ISP's that are VAT registered?

Tell the client that because they dont charge VAT, he doesnt pay VAT and therefore he doesnt need to claim VAT 'cos hes getting it cheaper as a result of not paying VAT:D

HUH??

Some problems with that theory:
1. He is paying VAT - i'm sure that IS is VAT registered and they will be charging their resellers VAT. Its just that the VAT chain is broken at the reseller level and he will save on the VAT on the tiny margins that they work with... peanuts really.
2. Any offering from another provider that is - on paper - much more expensive will work out cheaper once the VAT is recovered.
3. Its a pain in the #$% for the accountants to process non-VAT purchases in a VAT based company cause it has to be handled sepparately.

Should not most ADSL ISPs with about 100 customers or more be VAT registered by law? The amounts they handling puts them above the threshhold?

VAT registration is not measured by the number of accounts you have, but your annual turnover, which, if it exceeds more than R300 000, you are to be registered for VAT.

I know. But if you have more than 100 customers at about R300+ per month each (for ADSL), then your annual turnover would be over R300 000. But I suppose SARS will only force you to register after the full financial year is past. (might be wrong)

Yup, according to SARS, if your turnover exceeds R300K, then you need to be Vat Registered.
It would need to be a very small ISP, not to be Vat Registered?
Best is to just ask.

I thought this thread was about the BEST VAT registered ISP, so why is Telkom being mentioned here?
