Best video-editing software

What is the best video-editing software out there? I don't want to use it for professional purposes...just amateur (but it must still at least appear professional). I've want an easy-to-use piece of software with some professional features.

I've got my eyes set on Sony Vegas Video. Do you think this will fulfill my requirements?
