Ok because of the complications of Port availability and such i have to consider a wireless option for however it is going to take to install the DSL line

Now im just wondering if anyone has used wireless for WoW before and what latencies you got and how reliable it was?

Thanks

I used to do 25man raids using the vodacom 3g option, and had minimal problems. at the time I didnt know about a proxy service like battleping (free) or lowerping (not free). mind, it definitely makes a difference as to your location, whether 3g is available. and if you do go the wireless way, make sure you get a little program called mdma off these forums. beats the hell outta the rubbish program that vodacon supplies.

http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/

gives you realtime monitering of how much data you use, and various other little things

Try to ask Telkom for their Wimax, with which you can still use any ADSL ISP, they sometimes offer this to clients that can't get adsl like yourself.

I'm using Vodacom HSDPA/HSUPA with Battleping raiding 25mans with no problems (constant 300-450ms while using vent) :)

@ Tinuva Sounds good, any specific number i have to contact for the service?

@oculate how much are you paying per month? What package are you using? Data wise

mtn hspda make sure you have 7.2mps modem with new upload speeds, then you fine 280-320ms 25 man raids with battleping.

o, and WHATEVER you choose, dear lord above and below, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT sign yourself into a contract. I cant state that enough. Rather go through the mission of topping up, and taking your sim out of the dongle etc. especially if you are planning on getting adsl soon. unless of course you get one of those contracts with the laptop included for your kids or something.

Something like R440 p/month, 2.3Gb contract - I unfortunately don't have ADSL access where I stay

@ Kaine, definitely not getting into ANY type of contract, not a good way to go with DSL hopefully coming in a few months.

@Heretic, How much are you paying per month and how much data do you use and what modem?

R400 for 2gig, e272 is discontinued ,you need to closely to the specs if you buy one, as the new ones they sell is 3.6mps, the R600 ones.

first buy both vodacom and mtn, to see which is best performance for your area .

like vodacom have very good signal where i live ,but the tower is overcrowded ,then i get disconnected in 25 man raids.

mtn has lower signal but there tower is not as full then it plays nicely :)

So i need to get a modem with 7.2 Mbps P/S?

Isnt there a way that i can check coverage online?

yeah mtn and vodacom you can check :)

yes 7.2mps one but need to support hsupa with the fast upload speed, probably not needed but i like have fast upload speed for gaming, i get about 1mps+ upload speed on speedtest.net which faster then 4mb lines get :)

High-Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) is a 3G mobile telephony protocol in the HSPA family with up-link speeds up to 5.76 Mbit/s. from Wikipedia

yes e272 will work fine ,the one i have.

bit exspensive try gumtree for second one, where i got mine from :)

Found one for 700 so i ordered it. Also what reealm are you gaming on to be getting latency like that?

Does the latency fluctuate? Do you go over the 2GB cap often?
Sorry bout so many questions :P

i play on stormscale, lightbringer and spinebreaker, seems mostly the same ping, stormscale has server dced me before , but thats blizz :)

160mb+ for 25 man raid 3 hours, thats with vent. ruby sanctum progress is normally yes, sindragosa seems to be the fight using the most bandwidth for me.

10 mans is 120mb or so.

5man 7mb or so for quick one.

there some usage ,2gb is normally about 2.5 weeks as do 3 25mans a week and some 10 mans and alts etc :)

Not so bad then, just data is so bloody expensive when its wireless, wish it was cheap as chips.

So do we all... in a 5 hour ICC25 run with 50mb addon usage and vent I use about 200-270mb... luckily thats only once a week

That is why I am so glad I have adsl. After getting a R4700 3g bill cause yes I didn't bother to look how much I used over a December. I will never use it again :P

lol :D thats why im having second thoughts of getting HSDPA. Cause i just buy more and more data when i go over usage.
