Betrayed

Never Trust Anyone
A couple decides to commit suicide after going through a really hard tough time in life. So they both decided to jump off a 20 storey building. When they got to the top most floor, they both agreed to count 1-3 and jump. On the 3rd count, the woman jumped but the man stayed. As the man watched the woman fall, he saw the woman pulling out a parachute to land safely. Question - who betrayed who? The man or the woman?

This is the philological debate of being oblivious. Similar scenario would you want to know if a family member or a friend will help you and risk their own life when your own life is in danger or stay oblivious to the fact.

It's got nothing do to with trust or betrayal......Not sure what your point is either.

A doubt remains on whether the woman would have used the parachute should the man have jumped. She might have planned it only as a safety in case he didn’t jump.

I would say that the man betrayed her at 100% and since we don’t know what she would have done if he jumped, there are 50% chances she betrayed him.

A parachute is hard to hide. What if he saw her wearing it so he knew she was going to **** him over?

Nobody betrayed anybody. It is in fact, you who have betrayed us with this cuckery.

You could tell this same story many different ways.

The basic formula is:

Person A promises to do something.
Person B promises to do something.
Neither does the something they promised.
Who betrayed who?

The answer is they both did.

The fact that they both betrayed each other maybe makes their own betrayal a little easier on the conscience, and that's something we all do in our daily lives too. "Oh sure, maybe I did X, but s/he did X,Y and Z. So really, I'm the victim."

The really interesting extension, however, is this: what would have been morally better? For both of them to go through their little suicide pact, or for at least one of them to talk the other one out of it, and they both go on to live long and happy lives with each other or other partners?
