I just wanted to ask your advice:

My laptop was stolen a few months back and the replacement laptop I’m being offered is the a:

Dell vostro 3560

Specs: Intel Core i5 2.5Ghz, 8Gb ddr Ram,750 gb hdd, DVD-Super Multi Drive

The price is R12,800.

Do you reckon this is reasonable?

If not is there something better you know of that I can get?

I know two people who have bought the i7 version of the Vostro 3560 with 32GB cacheing SSD, 1TB hard drive, 8GB Ram for R7000 and R7500 secondhand from Carbonite and Bidorbuy.

If it's insurance claim, then let them payout based on the replacement and buy whatever you want and have some cash left.


My wife's Acer laptop was struck by lightning 2 years ago. Contacted insurance, they said similar replacement would be Acer model x
for R7000.
They paid the money in my account, less small excess, and I bought a better specc'd Lenovo and had some cash left for a wireless mouse and a meal at Spur

Well i would imagine it is for windows only, apps etc and then another drive for storage but in general laptops come with one drive so maybe he means partitioned into say two drives, well 3 due to the back up drive, one dedicated to windows but it's still one hdd. I am amazed laptops even at 12k do not offer a 128gb hdd along with a 750 or 500gb mechanical.

I bought two windows 8 touch screen laptops for a pair for CA's, 20k inc vat. 256gb ssd. They were blown away by the speed of their laptops. Crazy that you need to drop 20k on laptops(granted the touch element added 2-3k i think) these days to get ssd.

Is there a laptop for 12k with a 128gb hdd?
