Better quality from dvd layer to tv - cables.

Hello,

I'm looking to squeeze better quality picutre from my telly. (from dvd player to telly actaully)

The dude at audio vision said i need the green/red/blue cables, which cost 100 bux.

Currenlty using red/white/yellow.

Is it worth getting these cables? Is that price OK?
 
what sort of distance are you talking about?
 
The red/white/yellow are Composite RCA cables. They transport Audio (Red/white) and video (yellow).

The green/red/blue cables are Component cables and transport VIDEO only.

It's only useful to you if your DVD player has component out, and your TV has component in. You will still need the red/white portion of composite cables for sound.

If you don't have those connections, next best is SVideo - the connector looks similar to a PS/2 type connection on a PC - again, this is video only.

In order of quality:

RF connector (Same as from TV Aerial - ugh - NEVER use this kind of connection - unlikely to be found on dvd player)
Composite (Yellow cable, with red/white audio)
SVideo (PS/2 type connector)
Component (red/green/blue video only)

I had the Red/Green/Blue cable for my Sony Wega TV & Toshiba DVD player - absolutely brilliant.

Made the mistake of donating my Wega to my parents and now I'm borrowing a LG till I get my Plasma. The LG doesn't have Red/Green/Blue inputs. :sick:
 
My telly and dvd player does have the r/g/b inputs. thanks for info.

If you're confused by this thread then you shouldn't be reading it.

And if it's necessary to explain why "those random new terms" were used, then you haven't read the whole thread, or it flew over your head and you didn't understand it.
 
I think he meant that the physical plughs are red, green and blue

Not all cables are equal :p I suppose you can pay R30, but you'll see a difference if you buy a cable of better quality. Read up (reviews) on some component cables before making a final choice.

very rich, assuming things about me.

i read the whole thread, and say it degenerate from composite to component and then have the thread starter start referring to component as r/g/b/..the random new terms was meant as seen from the thread starters view, as he will likely go and ask for an rgb cable now and then we all stuffed in trying to help mr boodles out.

I don't think a ruder person exists on this usually very helpfull forum.

Are you an elitest that only gives the most clued up the time of day?
 
a "Y Pr Pb" component cable can cost from R50 to 500 bucks. Buy the expensive one if you have a HD TV and a upscaling or expensive progressive scan DVD player. The cheap one will do ya for a standard CRT TV and normal DVD player.
