Better than iBurst?

Not bad except it excludes Telkom line rental. This package also has P2P shaping which u can bypass if you're as smart as some of us. The XXL account (R1499) also has P2P shaping & a hefty setup fee, WTF?
Uncapped ADSL Account

Bandwidth(Up/Down) Unlimited
Fixed IP None
Setup fee None
Monthly cost R899.00 (Includes VAT & Exludes Telkom Line Rental)
Contracts None
Payment Method Debit Order
Telkom Line Types DSL512, DSL384 & DSL192
International Access Yes
Local Access Yes
Port Shaping P2P
Uplink Provider UUNET
Concurrent Connections 1 *
SMTP Relay Yes

Lets face it, the 10GB package for R400 is not bad.

Yes you add ADSL rental on top of that, but in total you cannot beat that value with iBurst.

Better than what we have!

This option from Axxess is still better in my opinion than Telkoms offering. The looming 3gig cap has always been a problem especially when running a network off it. As much as we can control our network through proxy the fact is that in todays day and age we should have more gig's for our money. Not a bad product on paper but is it reliable??

It has the same look, for me, as Iburst had a month ago....too good to be true ;)

iBurst was too good to be true, and I rode it for months until it became the **** is it now. So time to move on to the next best thing.

Its exactly like Telkom ADSL, but MUCH cheaper, and caps that are as good as "uncapped".

Quality

That is the problem - who controls the quality of what we get! Most things that are provided are too good to be true in our SA universe :-)
I was amazed to see an article on telkoms site that rated the services of our internet comparing our broadband services and the qualities of other countries services. I hope they are aware that they come up at the bottom of the list (what a surprise, not!)http://home.telkomsa.net/rudolph/march_br.pdf

Dont be ridiculous, when you signed up to iBurst, did you know hat quality you would get? No.

But we took a chance, and while it was in the teething phase, which luckily for us was a long time, it was great. You need to get on to a new service before it becomes oversubscribed.

And it seems as far as Axxess is concerned, that time is now. And you can cancel with one month's notice as there is no contract. Beat that with iBust.

Considering that I don't have IBurst (thank goodness, although I was looking into it!) I think that I may try the newbie! When you have a budget like mine there is not much room for error!

Go for Axxess, then report back here :) Apparently you can sign up on the spot, as long as you have an ADSL line.

They are another reseller of uncapped UUNET adsl. The grass isn't always greener...

Web Africa ADSL signups suspended

Due to the poor overall performance on UUNet's ADSL network at this point in time, we have decided to temporarily suspend any new ADSL signups. This means nothing for our existing customers, but for those of you who were considering signing up with us, we will have to ask you to wait a while until we are comfortable that UUNet's network is actually capable of servicing both existing and future users how they should be.

We are just as unhappy as the rest of you with the way UUNet's network has degraded over the past few weeks. Know though that they are working on fixing these problems and we hope that we will be able to start signing up users again in the near future (however, when this will be remains to be seen).

For those of you who are already signed up with us, we apologise for the poor performance and high latency, we ask that you be patient, service will improve. We realise that for the price you are paying you expect more than you are getting at the moment (I'm a user as well and I expect better too) and we are well aware of the frustrations being voiced, and we hope that UUNet will be performing necessary upgrades soon to improve the network for you.

Again, this suspension of signups is merely temporary, once we feel UUNet's ADSL network can handle it, we will reinstate the ability to sign up.

Why did Ibust score so low on speed?

All that means is that they realised they would have to use astronomical contention ratios, so stopped signing up users. So what? Thats a good idea.

And that means nothing as far as Axxess is concerned.

There was a very healthy debate on that issue here on this very forum. IMO five basic problems with the tests:

1. Sample size too small.
2. Unequal weight given to each tester.
3. The tests, intolerent of higher/variable latency produced excess "errors", suited ADSL, not wireless.
4. No local access.
5. No multithreading.

"Nothing" is too encompassing. They share the same UUNET network.

Maybe ask on the ADSL forum if anyone is using Axxess. More likely to get an informed response there.
