Hi,

beware of doing data roaming in Botswana with your Voda connection.

You will be charged R143.62 per Meg on the Orange Network, and R33.27 on the Mascom network.

The rates if you were using a Orange SIM would be Botswana Pula 3.00 per MB (about R3.50 at current exchange rates) (This the OOB rate)

Mascom Pay as you surf is P2.00 (about R 2.30 at current exchange rates).

Vodacom claims they just pass the bill on.

Obviously VC needs to renegotiate these rates!

It is obvious this is a major stinker - VC will add a percentage on top of whatever the Botswana Cell companies charge, and the higher the roaming charges, the more money VC will profit.

Almost all data roaming is robbery! In fact even roaming for just calls is robbery. Always better to just get a local sim card and buy pre-paid airtime. This applies to vodacom and mtn roaming!!!

Hi Kaaspaas

You got the legalities wrong Vodacom does not charge you this the roaming netowrk does Vodacom pays the roaming costs and then debits you when ever your debit order is set to run.

Remembering that we do not make the chargers for DATA in other countries this is the amount agreed upon to allow you to Roam in other countires by the foreign networks.

in essence do not roam with you DATACARD

Hi VodaData,

the information on the webpage you refered to is dated.

Botswana now has 3G.

Again: VC needs to speak loud with Orange/Mascom!

Hi,

The rates displayed in these tables were last updated on 2009-08-18 12:24:03.74

Thats if you scroll down to the end of the page show`s when it was last updated.

When they upgraded to 3G has nothing to do with the query.Whether on 3G or GPRS that's the rate you going to pay , this is the per meg usage.

I can see that a 100meg file downloaded via Orange can seriously damage your health...
rofl,
that's such a laugh. 100mb that costs a fortune in 2009? pfft. this is why I stay away from mobile data packages in general. anything above even R0.10c/mb is a complete ripoff

R450 just to open up your facebook page?

VodacomData, can you perhaps enlighten us why an ISP such as yourself think it's acceptable to charge a half a grand to open up a web page?

Like i have explained before the cost is decided by the Network that you are roaming on .

Do me a favor go to the link that i provided and check the different countries and what they charge for data PER MEGABYTE doesnt matter if you used GPRS or 3G.

People fail to understand that you paying the network you are roaming on the same goes for making calls while roaming its ALL expensive.

Somewhere in the past Vodacom and Orange/Mascom had to reach an agreement of some kind and Vodacom had to agree to accept the rates as published.

Obviously VC does not care if foreign cellphone companies rip their (VC's) client's off.

The difference between the rates charged on local SIM's and on roaming is just not acceptable.

Time for VC to renegotiate with Orange and Mascom, or does VC not care about its clients being ripped off?

I understand the concept VD, I am asking why networks such as yourself "decide" it's acceptable to charge so much. it's a simple question really.

What do mean its acceptable its certainly not , you missing that bigger picture.

We do not charge the client the foreign network does we then debit WHAT they have sent to us as a bill.

20% ??? 20% ???

- A guy from botswana pays R2 per meg at most for him to use the orange ISP
- A guy from SA pays R2 per meg (or 17c if in Bundle) to use to vodacom ISP.

now the guy from botswana visits SA, roaming, and has to go through Vodacom, pay them, which connects to his ISP, and paying them as well.

so why is it not R2 + R2 but more like R2 x 100 ?

why do you suddenly charge the botswana guy so much ?
