Beware of DSTV Drifta and Android

Hi,

Just a quick note to Android/Backberry/Nokia users thinking of getting DSTV DRIFTA and using it on those devices.

There are still no apps released by the DRIFTA development team. YOU CANNOT USE THE DRIFTA SERVICE WITHOUT THEM.

I've been on their forum and they refuse to commit or give an ETA in a big fat "up yours" kind of way.

I will be returning mine tomorrow with a big fat "up yours" straight back at them.

I hope this saves someone else the hassle.

Sure smurf, cos we all carry our laptops around in our pockets to the Cricket/Rugby stadiums and to the school sports fields and none of us Drifta owners with Blackberries, Android or Nokia devices wish to use the device in the way it was advertised and under the conditions it was sold to us. April 2011 seems a distant memory - even DSTV seems to have forgotten that was what they told us when we bought our devices in Dec/Jan.

Im glad you still have patience. Having a Nokia, BB and Android device and not being able to use my Drifta as a mobile device really sucks. And then to read on the DSTV forums how the official representative patronise us and use excuses like "but ALL android apps come out after iPhone apps" implying that we should know that there is some development challenge that affect all Android apps. Please.

Also remember : Cartoon Network on the Drifta is NOT the same as the CN on DSTV.
The CN on the Drifta is a week old and gets repeated every 2 hours !!!

But I still love my Drifta

Nokia either comes built in with a dvb-h capability (n96 etc) or you buy the Nokia dvb-h (N8 etc) head set and yes both works on dstv mobile
as for android, some devices support some dont of course only drift wifi not the drifta usb, nd development yes its slow unfortunately but im sure it would have been easier to check for the app first at market place first then buy the drifta (or is that just me?)
as for blackberry really those thing are crap, only good for bbm and that's about it, but it is compatible with some.
And there is a list on their website of which ones it work's for,again i would have checked there first?

Does this need a 3G/internet connection to authenticate? Does it affect my Drifta's firmware in anyway, do I need to update? I am the firmware that allows the doctored application to stretch the window.
