My bf2 keeps crashing to the desktop while playing.
Sometimes I can play for 5 min, other times for an hour or so. I have installed the newest drivers for everything on my machine, have patched the game etc.

I read somewhere that HT on Intel can be switched off and this solves the problem. Where do you switch it off on AMD (Hyper transport) as there is no place in the bios to do this?

Pls help.

Hyper Threading is what u're looking for. It's must be turned off in the BIOS.
From my experience, my dang network card was causing BF2 to crash hpahazardly, though I did find some good clues in the System Log.

checked the log, nothing strange there, it also crashes in single player mode? In my bios i can only set spread spectrum, cant switch it off.

If you're running AMD you do not have hyper-threading so you can't turn it off. Hyper transport is something completely different.

What system do you have ie Amd64 ?,gfx card.memory ect. Also when it crash does it exit to the desktop or hang and you have to reboot? Did you apply the 1.2 patch? Are you overclocking your system?

I had a problem where my system used to hang after a couple of minutes and the sound got stuck. I then had to reboot. I was overclocking quite a bit. I cut back on the overclock and turned all my graphic options in the game a tad down and it havent happened again...Yet

Also if you search Google you will find many topics of the problems people have with bf2 crashing and some possible fixes.

Do you have enough power from your CPU. The demands of this game are fairly high and if you are not providing enough juice your system may be stalling because of that

well what i would do is:

go into your bios reset to default
if that doesnt work uninstall your video reinstall
if that doesnt work reload windows (fresh install)
also update the drivers for evertying ie mb sound card network card everything and try that if that doesnt work
buy a new pc lol

Just a thought:

It could be that you are either running a no-cd crack, and then the game degrades to a crash, or it detects cd copy tools like clonecd or Daemon and also crashes.

:)

Nah thats not it.

Ok the system is not oc, amd 64 3200, 1gig ram, 6600 pci-e 128mb, nforce4 mobo. The power supply is 500w and it is a legal copy. Thanks will try the default settings in bios.
Have tried the driver thing, didnt help. Patched the game aswell. Checked google and all of them had Intel with HT. Ps. EA Support is useless. Oh yes, it crashes to the desktop while playing, no warning before or after.

like i said update all your drivers for everything

what make is the mb?

well ppl always ask if your copy of windows is legal, it doesnt matter illegal copies work exactly the same just dont pay so much

Have done all the drivers, it's an elitegroup a939-nforce4 board.

a what

omg get gigabye never even heard of that

i will bet you change to a known decent brand like gigabyte your problems will be solved

Well i had the Kn1 Extreme and all I can say is it's crap. My reason for saying this is that all my games ie Swat4, Rid****, Half Life2 ,Brothers in Arms crashed after a couple of minutes. And that was stock
I phoned the supplier and told them to take back the piece of **** and bought myself an Asus A8N Sli never looked back.
