Ok, so i finally installed BF2142 again after i switched to Vista, but everytime i try to start the game, the splash screen comes up, screen goes blank then it comes back to the desktop with a error message "BF2142.exe has stopped working".

I have tried everything i can think of, ran in compatibilty mode, as an admin, with just about every background process ended, yet it doesnt want to work.

My drivers are all up to date, bios has been updated recently, latest patch for BF loaded, everything....

I feel like throwing something out a window, this thing is just driving me fscking mad

So, does anyone here know what to do??? :o

Any help would be greatly appreciated :o

BTW, tried googling, couldn't find any solutions in the past three hours... :o

Mine works fine... :D helpful aren't I?

Have you read this?

Quite a few useful things to try out, also are you running the latest Nvidia drivers, the 158.45 release? Or for ATI 7.5...

Maybe your audio drivers too, some people said the X-FI Vista Beta drivers made the game crash.

One of the guys in the linked forums shows he has a 13.8Mbps download speed... I'll never be happy with 1Mbps again... :(

did that memory tweak thing from the link tera posted, didnt help...

then decided i'll re-install and see what happens, this time I installed it to my C drive (donno whether that made any difference), patched it up again, and did the memory tweak thing again. and guess what... I WORKS... w00t! :D

not sure what made it work, just the re-install, the tweak, or the location, but to be honest, i dont care anymore :p

Thanks for the tips and help guys ;)

158.45? latest i could find is 158.24...

Always use the beta drivers from nvidia. The official whql drivers are just the beta drivers which finally get the MS testing stamp. They are very old compared to the beta's that 158.24 is a month old. 158.45 is a lot better. I gain 6 fps in lost planet dx10 demo with it.

Can't help with bf, don't have the game but have you tried running in xp sp 2 compat mode?

Now that that one problem is out of the way, another has managed to find me... :o

So play for bout 5 mins, then all of a sudden, i'm kicked and a blank message box with the title "PunkBuster" is displayed...

Then i remember seeing something bout having to update PB because of issues with vista. So I update PB according to the instructions and run BF2142 as an Admin.

Now, instead of kicking me after bout 5mins, a few sec after i join a server, a message "IMPORTANT: Visit www.evenbalance.com to update your PunkBuster flies manually" is displayed and then i'm kicked and that blank message box is displayed again.

FFS, I ALREADY MANUALLY UPDATED PUNK@KBUSTER!!!!

I did the manual update thing again to make sure it updated the first time, now it say's it's up to date everytime i run it, so there's clearly nothing to update.

Anyone have any ideas?

Ja, I've realised this after seeing so many drivers stay exactly the same after getting WHQL'ed.. yet it takes amonth or two.

Also got an extra 6 FPS in the Lost Planet Demo :D

So they still kick you when you have everything set up? Sounds more like a server bug..

Are you playing local SGS servers? You could just ask them about it.
