It was reported here on MyBB, about a week ago.
The general discussion was why it was so low key and not more widely reported.
Ah I see, we had 2 hours of downtime during the outage.

Sorry guys - I missed this thread, but yes, as mentioned by others (and in one of my posts: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ic-Service?p=14266415&viewfull=1#post14266415) Neotel experienced a fire (!?!? wtf) in their UPS rooms which required them to completely disconnect power in the DC. Outage was for almost 5 hours.
Although executives have promised on the 29/12 an incident report within 24 hours I am still waiting for said report (it's been over a week since the incident). Complete powerloss was a disaster and although we have redundant racks within the DC (on supposedly completely separate UPS/powerfeeds), Neotel cut all the power to the DC (or they actually do not have proper tier3 power-feeds).
Considering the panic and disorganisation on the 29th I did expect that this would make news, but perhaps with corporates being on leave over the period, most executives would only be aware of it after returning from the holidays. In any case, I have given up on Neotel as they are incapable and incompetent in running a DC. Our servers there are hosted under another provider as we don't need a full rack, mainly internal kit. We were actually bragging in December that a maintenance task on one of the Hyper visors has been failing resulting in the server being online for 360 odd days (not sure if we broke the year barrier before the blackout) and during that time we have had very very little networking issues.
Where you guys off to? Teraco?

We considered Teraco, but their physical location is a bit too remote and troublesome for us - trying to get to Kempton from Bryanston during the day is pretty much an hour's trip. Although we have all monitoring in place (in all outages cases with Neotel, our monitoring picked up issues before their NOC team) engineers do frequent site-visits and it will just cost too much money/waste time for people driving long distances weekly.
We have decided to move back to IS (it's a 2 minute walk from our offices). What I did not mention in my blog post is, that although Neotel quoted us 30% lower for hosting than all other competitors (MTN, IS, Vodacom, Teraco), it turned out once they fixed their billing issues that they are actually more expensive than anyone else. Right now I am paying 40% more than at the beginning of the year and am actually running a negative budget due to their stuff-up.
I think if Teraco had a more central DC - such as Rosebank/Bryanston/Sandton, it would have been a no-brainer. I think Teraco is a no-brainer for DRP. Another reason for not going with Teraco was that although we provide our own kit, we needed someone who provides managed infrastructure (firewall-, edge-network management) and with Teraco being a neutral DC I did not want to take over some of the administrative burden which a traditional DC deals with daily. Also another reason was MPLS (dual fibre links into the office) and finally cost (Teraco struggled previously to come close to the IS offering).
