Big Boy Scooters

PCX150 is the best value for money if you want a scooter.

Has stop/start and everything at a reasonable price.

Go Big Boy if you want to service it once a month or don't bother and replace it every year instead.

That looks amazing, and the fuel consumption should be magical. I wanted a PCX, but they were just too expensive.

It is, isn't it? But the repayments are not bad - around R800 per month, which is cool with me.

It really does look really good. Now I need to get the ball rolling!

It will be money better spent overall and will make up for the price in fuel savings and reliability

You will not go wrong with buying Honda, trust me :)

Quick question - can I book a test drive if I don't have a learner's or driver's licence for these bikes? Can I take a test drive if I've never driven one before?

Did you honestly expect a different answer?

It's a massive liability risk as it stands for dealerships, increasing that would be silly.

I had a Big Boy Retro for 3 years. No problems. Just the plastic started to fade in the end before I sold it. I serviced it a lot (oil changes mainly), almost every 1500km.
If you have the budget, I would suggest the Sym too. Korean scooters>chinese

So what would be the recommended steps to take to make this happen? Buy the bike then get the licence or vice versa? What's a good shop to buy helmets etc?

If you buy without a license you can not finance it, just a heads up. I say go for your learners asap, make the appointment today or tomorrow. I was surprised by how long the wait can be.
Good place for gear in CT = motorcycle world and Trac Mac. I would advise getting at least gloves along with the helmet (and thereafter jacket and boots in that order). And a note for helmets, get the one that fits properly, thats the singular most important factor.
And one last thing, if you plan to ride in the rain, I've been told that scoots slip really easily, so just take it slow :)

Get Learners's then buy bike.

Get license with bike.

Buy gear from bike shop or from these guys if you want to go cheap.

At the very least get helmet, jacket and gloves. Thank me later when you aren't waiting for skin grafts to heal.
