My new pc build is giving me problems when it's on for a while or when a game is played. I suspect the psu is weak but i'm not sure. . .

My set up is -
-intel Q9400 quad core (2.66Ghz)
-intel DG45ID mobo
-Radeon HD 4890 1GB ddr5 gpu
-400watt PSU that came with the case.
-23" samsung s2333 lcd
-1TB WesternDigital hdd
-1gb ddr3 ram (i know this must ae upgraded)

When i play a non demanding game like fifa 09 for a while after doing normal pc tasks e.g installing something, the screen just goes black when i start the game or during game play (in this case the case makes some weird noise before rebooting), i'd reboot the computer but the screen might still go black unless i wait some time before rebooting. . . The monitor will have no display but the blue led light will still be flashing and i can hear log on sounds etc . . . What is this? What's happening? All drivers are installed. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance. . .

It's possible that the PSU is causing the problems. I'd have a look at a quality 500W or higher PSU, personally, even if the PSU hadn't been causing problems. Do you really want your nice gaming system to have to rely on a PSU that might blow up or spike at any minute? :D

I agree with the others, it's probably the hampster that can't cope. Get a new good quality one with Nike running shoes. :p

That Radeon 4890 and the Q9400 are probably drawing more power than the PSU can supply, probably causing the blackouts. Upgrade that first, then make sure all drivers are up to date etc...

Thanks guys i'll have a look this week sometime asap . . After i'm done fighting with telkom. I think i will go with the suggested psu or atleast use it as a reference, if anyone else knows any good ones on good deals (with nikes and sweat bands) ;) why not post a link i'm sure many people are interested. . I hope this solves my problem amd thanks for the quick replies.

:D Was just wondering if I (once again) got ripped off on pricing. My 600AS was some R850-R900.
