Big problems at Eskom

Haha. Known fact. Something is expensive so I should be able to sell for the same price as anyone else... This doesnt make sense beyond primary school!

Peak time flights, its okay Ill swap you a flight where theres loads of empty seats.

Unless you've found a way to produce more energy in Winter than Summer, then you're "all kwh are created equal plan" just doesn't work.

If you don't like the way your municipality is run, work to get them voted out, or move.
If you dont like the deal they offered then you shouldn't have built too much solar! Silliness all round today.h
I'm sorry, which municipality charges consumers time of use, ie; peak and off peak?

Some do... But more importantly, thats what they get CHARGED by Eskom. Its right there online. Google Eskom Tariffs. Most of them pay MEGAFLEX

I don't have a problem with what Eskom are charging them, I have a problem with them charging the max rate 24/7. We pay R2.50 at 3am where Eskom are selling for 40c.

Name one municipality that has time use rates.

Your suggestion of voting the municipality out is laughable. Who do you replace them with? I've had both the ANC and DA and they're not much different when it comes to the non-delivery of paid services.
It's much easier to just drill a borehole, put solar in and stick it to the municipality where ever possible.

Your argument about all power being more expensive to produce in winter is not true for Eskom.
The majority of our electricity base load is generated from coal throughout the year and the coal prices are fixed term contracts. What Eskom pay for coal during winter is the same as during summer. It doesn't cost more to mine a ton of coal during winter nor does it cost more to burn a ton of coal dust in a furnace during winter.

What Eskom are doing is jacking up the prices under high demand periods to firstly try fleece the consumers (municipalities and direct customers) and secondly to try discourage high usage peaks (spread the load out).
There is only one reason for this and it is due to Eskom's inability to generate enough capacity during peak times and seasons because they didn't build enough generation capacity and the current infrastructure is falling apart. They resort to running expensive OCGT to try meet demands which were only meant to be used for emergencies.

The consumer is being made to pay for Eskom and the ANC led government's mistakes. You try vote them out.

Yikes - cart before the horse here.

Yes - electricity is expensive, got it. So install solar. Agreed - 100% with you on this.

The question is - should Eskom/Muni pay you MORE for the Solar power you produce than they would pay Eskom... surely the answer is NO!

Nobody is saying pay MORE. They are saying they want to export more than they consume and be paid a fair rate, even introduce peak time rate to help the duck curve with their batteries.

Time to check the batteries., inverters, generators etc. ESCOMs incompetence is only surpassed by the governments.

Very good point. If Eskom charge a municipality R3+/kWh during peak times then why should a consumer exporting to the grid only be paid 10c/kWh or 80c/kWh during the same peak time?
That means the municipality is purchasing power at a cheaper rate than they would have paid Eskom and pocketing an even greater profit. Essentially the consumer is getting shafted yet again.
