Big Rain 5G expansion

Ever thought of having two? Set the one with the off-peak sim to act as a Wifi extender. Then just switch the one with the peak sim on during peak time and it will route through that connection.
Doing that currently. Had my old 4g phone setup with tasker and auto input to change the two aumomagically but the phone's battery started to expand so that stopped lol.

Hmm tower looks bit far from me, maybe I can get external antenna. Will sign up from another area lol

Antennas does unfortunately not work. You will need to mount the external unit outside on a poll.

5G is different because it requires 6x6 mimo minimum and because the 5G cpe does not have 6 antenna ports you can not use an external antenna. Rain ships the external unit now though although not as good as the ODU.

You can check when towers start going online by doing a manual network search on your phone. You are looking for 65573 which the 4G network ID Rain uses for 5G.

Yeah 65573 which is 4G/LTE Band 3 (1800MHz) is only broadcasted from a 5G enabled tower so when you start seeing that there might be a 5G tower in range but also remember that 1800MHz travels waaaaay further than 3600MHz 5G so keep that in mind.

65538/rain is for Rain Mobile
65519 is for Rain Fixed LTE
65573 is the LTE that Rain uses to establish a 5G connection and to help with upload speeds if you are far from the tower.

Last year Rain said they have 100000 mobile subscribers if all subscribers pay R250 p.m.
Monthly income is 25 million rand

Mobile Subscribers can grow very quickly. These guys will not reveal the true figures for a while.

But i see your point. I would easily put RAIN anywhere between 250 000 - 300 000 customers.

Won't happen. Demand on 4G is just too high.

Demand too high. Data too cheap and Rain just does not have 4G spectrum to increase speeds.

Their 5G is a true testament of how fast a single tower can be if it has enough spectrum. If they get more and more spectrum for 4G then speeds will increase.

Posts like these are proof that you must think twice before signing up for a contract for wireless Internet:

It might work acceptable at first, but then in most of the cases it goes downhill at some stage, and then the ISP just ignores queries, leaving you high and dry to either ride out the contract, or pay the steep cancellation fees.

It is a win for them either way.
