Big software update: Samsung Watch 4

So today I got a notification about a software update ... and after installing that I noticed I can now install the Samsung Health Monitor app, and the ECG and Blood Pressure functions are unlocked!



I'll do a Blood Pressure test later, I need to calibrate it with my dedicated BP tester first.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't these functions blocked previously? I saw lots of people posting workarounds for South Africa.

A lot more experimentation will be required here lol.

It's the "pulse" icon that appeared after the update for me. You open that and it then prompts you to download the Samsung Health Monitor app to your phone.

Well, I didn't do any of that. This is vanilla firmware in South Africa, on my Vodacom contract device Sure some other Watch 4 owners here should start getting the same update.

So I managed to calibrate the blood pressure monitor ... you'll need a cuff-based digital monitor (I already had one at least) for three consecutive readings.

Results (no judgement please - I've had a stressful day lol):




Pretty magical stuff, if it turns out that's reasonably accurate. I wonder how they do that without a physical pressure reading.

Did Watch 3 have a BP and ECG sensor? I knew Watch 4 had one, but it's been deactivated up to now in South Africa ... so I guess they finally got regulatory clearance to enable it here. You'd still need the hardware though.

It had the ECG for sure. Was waiting for ages for them to activate it
