Big trouble at ZADNA

The .ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA) is in financial crisis, and an independent investigation recommended disciplinary action against ZADNA CEO Molehe Wesi for extravagant spending.

The report about the investigation, which was delivered to the ZADNA board and MyBroadband has seen, showed how the agency’s cash reserves dwindled over the past four years.

I am not surprised by this at all; it is the culture now, and it needs to be eradicated.

Honestly it doesn't cost that much for the equipment to host DNS entries. If you can't turn a profit at the prices charged and have to continually increase prices above inflation there's mismanagement going on.

Honestly it doesn't cost that much for the equipment to host DNS entries. If you can't turn a profit at the prices charged and have to continually increase prices above inflation there's mismanagement going on.

AFAIK ZADNA doesn't manage any infrastructure so apart from staff and their offices their operating costs should be relatively low.

Ah probably thinking of ZACR/ZARC. But as you know neither would have the same expenses as hosting/access providers to justify the way it's been going. Might be a good thing they don't manage anything so if it goes pear shaped the fallout won't be that big.

Perhaps but it's supposed to scale. I don't believe it can possibly justify R61 per domain even today.

Why would a domain authority even need 7.4million to start with?

It’s not uncommon for any business to have a cash reserve in the bank for rainy days and it shows that previous leaders were accountable and followed process in order to allow that amount of reserve to accumulate.

What’s left of it is the issue, including what it’s been wasted on

I agree with you 100% and am against any increase, more so when these are initiated by zadna
