A motorcyclist was struck by lightning while travelling between Kroonstad and Welkom on Wednesday, paramedics said.

The 34-year-old was found standing next to the road in the morning by a crew of paramedics passing by, who noticed something was wrong, ER24 spokesman Christo Venter said.

"He suffered some burn wounds and other injuries and was taken to Medi-Clinic Welkom for further treatment," Venter said.

Wonder if he was lane splitting at the time of being struck :D

Glad he is ok,
Be thankful it wasn't a cyclist. I can just image the wrath God would be facing if he directed a lightning bolt at a pedalist.

This is going to bug me, but what was wrong? Was he smoking while standing in a blackened circle of grass? If so - I would walk up to him really quietly, while making sure he does not look like Nicholas Cage.

And I wonder if his helmet diverted the strike around his head? Lucky guy.

Cyclist get hit by car. Dead.

Motorcyclist gets hit by lightning. Stands on the side of the road like a boss not giving a ****.

;)

The electrical current most likely passed though him on the shortest route possible, possible through his arm holding the bike or something, missing any critical organs, passing through the bike and onto the tarmac.

I won't go so far as saying I've been struck by lightning but one day the strike was literally so close that I thought I had been and I was blinded for a number of seconds.

Weirdest thing ever doing 120km/h and going purely by memory of what was in front of you while trying to figure out what the hell is going on.
