Bill Cosby charged with sexual assault [updated]

If it is true that Cosby is a rapist and you look at all the allegations, then he is one of the most prolific date rape type rapists the world has ever known.

EDDIE MURPHY SAID NO TO COSBY SKETCH, SNL CAST MEMBER SAYS
By FRAZIER MOORE

A lingering letdown for fans after Eddie Murphy's half-hearted display on the recent "Saturday Night Live" bash has been rekindled by a report of what might have been: Murphy impersonating Bill Cosby.

In a series of tweets, former "SNL" cast member Norm Macdonald described plans for Murphy to play the embattled Cosby in the "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketch seen on Sunday's "SNL 40th Anniversary Special."

A Video Daily Double question on Favorite Cocktails would have brought up a "video clip" of Murphy mimicking Cosby behind a bar.

Will Ferrell as host Alex Trebek would then cut it off in embarrassment, explaining the "clip" was taped last June - months before the ongoing scandal exploded amid allegations that Cosby served dozens of women drugged cocktails and then sexually assaulted them.

"Eddie Murphy doing a perfect Cosby impression," tweets Macdonald outlining how the sketch would have gone. "The audience does not let him finish. The sketch ends. The show, for all intents, ends."

The challenge, according to Macdonald, was persuading Murphy to take part.

"We talk in his dressing room a good hour. When it's over, I'm convinced he'll do it."

"He doesn't."

"Eddie decides the laughs are not worth it. He will not kick a man when he is down."

At least one person was grateful for Murphy's refusal. In a statement, Cosby said, "I am very appreciative of Eddie and I applaud his actions."

As viewers know, the sketch did go on, although, rather than Murphy, the role of Cosby was played by "SNL" cast member Kenan Thompson.

The presence of Murphy on the 3 1/2-hour special was billed as a highlight among the dozens of "SNL" alums and other celebs who were involved. It was his first return since 1984 to the show where he became the breakout star.

But his participation was limited to a few awkward words of thanks for the standing ovation he received in Studio 8H after a lavish intro by former "SNL" cast member Chris Rock. Many viewers were left disappointed and perplexed.

"We have no comment," said Murphy spokesman Arnold Robinson when asked about Macdonald's account of the show preparations. "Eddie was invited to attend the show and he attended."

BILL COSBY'S LAWYERS TO ASK JUDGE TO DISMISS DEFAMATION SUIT
By PHILIP MARCELO
Associated Press

Bill Cosby's lawyers said Tuesday they will ask a federal judge to throw out a defamation lawsuit filed by three women accusing him of decades-old sexual offenses.

The lawyers said in a legal brief they plan to file their motion to dismiss by Friday.

One of the women, Tamara Green, a California lawyer who says Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in the 1970s, originally brought the lawsuit in December 2014. Two women from Florida later joined the suit: Therese Serignese says Cosby drugged and raped her in 1976, and Linda Traitz alleges he tried to drug her and then sexually groped her in 1970.

The women argue that Cosby publicly branded them as liars through statements by his representatives. They seek an unspecified amount of money for compensatory and punitive damages.

Their lawyers have said the civil action also allows them to have their allegations heard since criminal statutes of limitation have expired. Cosby has denied wrongdoing and hasn't been charged with any crime.

Cosby, who starred as Dr. Cliff Huxtable on "The Cosby Show" from 1984 to 1992, has canceled or postponed more than a dozen shows on his comedy tour amid allegations by numerous women that he sexually abused them.

The Cosby team's statement that it will ask for the lawsuit's dismissal came in a status update filed jointly by Cosby's lawyers and lawyers for the three women. The sides have been in talks this month to resolve a number of issues related to the lawsuit, according to the filing.

Cosby's motion to dismiss will deal with "any issues that by that time have not been resolved through conference" between the sides, says the brief, which proposes other deadlines in the case.

Lawyers for the three accusers, for example, would have until March 20 to file a reply to Cosby's motion to dismiss. Cosby's lawyers would then have until April 8 to respond to that.

A lawyer for the three women said Cosby's motion to dismiss isn't a surprise. Lawyers for Cosby didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

Cosby victim kept quiet because she "didn't want to let black America down''

Jewel Allison, who came out accusing Bill Cosby of rape in November dating back to the late 1980’s, wrote a powerful piece Friday explaining why she didn’t come forward sooner.

Writing in The Washington Post, Allison wrote why being an African American victim weighed heavily on her mind.

“As an African-American woman, I felt the stakes for me were even higher. Historic images of black men being vilified en masse as sexually violent sent chills through my body. Telling my story wouldn’t only help bring down Cosby; I feared it would undermine the entire African-American community.”

Allison claims Cosby took her to dinner in the late 1980s when he slipped something in her wine, making her ill. The comedian then forced himself on her, Allison has claimed. She wrote that when seeing other accusers like Andrea Constand and Tamara Green come forward, she was terrified instead of relieved.

“I did not want to see yet another African-American man vilified in the media. As I debated whether to come forward, I struggled with where my allegiances should lie – with the women who were sexually victimized or with black America, which had been systemically victimized.”

Even Allison felt a desire to protect Cosby, who, as Dr. Huxtable, was a source of comfort for her during a 1980s that saw “Reaganomics, AIDS and the crack epidemic.”

But the soothing image of Cosby’s character went out the window on the night Allison claims he raped her.

But as I vomited in the backseat of the taxi that Cosby ushered me into after he assaulted me one night in the late 1980s, that Dr. Huxtable image no longer made sense. I felt both physically violated and emotionally bamboozled. Still, I didn’t want the image of Dr. Huxtable reduced to that of a criminal. For so many of the African-American men I knew, William H. Cosby, Ed.D. provided a much-needed wholesome image of success, and the character he made famous was their model for self-worth and manhood. I knew that, in my reluctance to add my assault to the allegations facing Cosby, I was allowing race to trump rape.

She concluded Cosby might have been one source of hope for the African American community, but “fictional icons like him should not wield so much power over our collective spirit.”

Nope. This is a type of slow burn mass hysteria that will be the foundation of modern libel cases for decades to come. There is definetly truth to it, seems Dr Huxtable liked to take his work home, but some of these 'accusations' are now starting to sound like people trying to cash in on the story.
You just need one or more to be disproved, and the validity of all of them will be questioned.

Cosby won't be criminally charged because of the statute of limitations in the US. But even if he were to be criminally charged he wouldn't be convicted. These ladies are very bad witnesses.

What will you do if he is criminally charged and convicted then?

All 33 of them are bad witnesses? There may be some but I can bet a good prosecutor could find a few good witnesses amongst that many complainants.

They're women dude... women are never good witnesses, didn't you know this?

What will you do if he is criminally charged and convicted then?

It aint happening due to statute of limitations (prescription). They can only hope to sue him and he'll settle like anyone would. But they can forget about convicting him.

No ways. Anybody who willing and knowingly takes a drug and claims rape 30 years after is a bad witness

:erm: Reading through the above, most did not know they where being given date rape drugs. Or do you assume that all woman who drink date rape drugs know when their drinks are being spiked.

Their drinks were not spiked. They claim Cosby gave them a drink, and they saw him put a pill in their drink, and they drank voluntarily. That is not spiking a drink. If the drinks were spiked, why didn't all of them report the rapes to the police? You can't have 30 women who were all raped in the same fashion, and all of them didn't report the rape to the police for 30 years. When did they know they were raped, immediately afterwards or 30 years later? No prosecutor will win this case.
