Hi all,

I am thinking of getting this router to replace my DLink 504T and Gigabyte GN-BR01G setup. The reason being that the 504T has really rubbish support for Linux (or vice versa if you prefer).

What I would like to know is whether this router supports having a regular PPPoE session at the same time as connecting via bridged mode.

Any other opinions on the Billion would be great, and if you think I can do better for the same price, please let me know.

Yes this is possible. It is called PPPOE relay. And the router does support it.

Thanks for the info

Its starting to look like this may be the router for me. But has anyone had any problems with using this router with Linux, I would hate to get another router and have the same problems all over again.

All the Billion routers have their own operating system and software. They are not dependant on any other OS. The router operates on level 3 (Nework Layer) of the OSI seven layer model and communicates via TCP/IP with Linux which is on level 7 (Application Layer).

So no we havnt had any problems up to date!!

Hope this helps..;)

Thanks again for the reply,

I hope I didnt sound stupid, but unfortunately even that level of seperation isnt always enough to ensure smooth operation with all OS's. The DLink router which I am replacing operates in much the same way, while its firmware is actually Busybox linux. The problem I had is that it doesnt seem to stick to whatever DNS and DHCP standards apply to these routers. The result is that when the DNS lease expires, it breaks down completely. Since this has happened with multiple Linuxes over the last year+, and since I am not alone (Many DLink + Linux complaints), I can only blame the router.

Anyway, I have spent some time googling for Billion 7300G complaints wrt Linux and found nothing. So I am quite happy to say that unless someone comes along in the next 30 minutes with new info, I will be confirming my order for a shiny new 7300G in the next hour.

Thanks for the help Billion!
