I've been sent a router that used to be on an IS uncapped connection.
The client came to the end of his contract. He and IS went their separate ways and he now wants to use the router.
Thing is, this router is somehow hardware locked to IS. Which could be a bit of a problem if you paid something like R1800 for the router a year ago.
So far I've pressed the reset button and cycled power a couple of times. The router just sits there. I can't access it via 192.168.1.1 (Telkom models of this thing) or 192.168.1.254 (Billion models of this thing).
The LAN light obviously comes on, so I know it's connected to the switch.
However if I bring an ADSL line near it, the router syncs PPPOE, starts to download stuff from some mythical, magical server at IS and then reboots itself, trying to connect with the (no longer existing) IS user name and password.
What do I do with this thing?
Do I sell the client another router?
Is there any way of cracking this thing and uploading "normal" Billion firmware?
