Hi there,
Does anybody know why the following would not work...
I have setup a Billion 400G router (IP: 192.168.1.2), which connects via a telkom line. Connected to it is one printer 192.168.1.60 and one laptop 192.168.1.201 using normal ethernet cables, as well as other guest laptops being able to connect wirelessly. That is all fine
Then I have a network cable connected to the above router running to the other side of my house (only about 10m through the ceiling) - and connected to it is a Netgear 8 port 10/100 switch. Plugged into the switch is another printer 192.168.1.7.
When I plug in my laptop into the Netgear switch - I can't ping the Billion Router 192.168.1.2 for some reason. If I plug the same cable that runs from the router into my laptop I can ping the router so that eliminates the possibility of the cable being faulty. With regards to the Netgear, I can ping the 192.168.1.7 printer when my laptop is plugged in and the Netgear switch is brand new (I've actually swapped it out twice because I thought it was faulty).
So basically it seems to me like there's something retarded with the routing, surely when I plug my laptop into the Netgear switch, I should be able to ping and access the Billion router. Also - when connecting via Wireless through the router I should be able to access the printer 192.168.1.7 which is not currently the case. Is there any kind of routing rules I need to put into the Billion Router?
All PC's and printers have 192.168.1.2 as the default gateway and all have a unique IP starting with 192.168.1.xxx and the subnets are all 255.255.255.0.
Please can someone help shed some light on what could be wrong?
Thanks
Peter
