Does the Billion router also take as long to connect and sync as the Telkom200 one?

I have never used the Telkom200, but the perfomance of my Billion router is awesome. It connect to the internet fast and sync well.

Your username and post count taints your credibility some what.

I am still confused about which router to get.

I just want something that syncs fast and are very stable for my 4MB line.

I am leaning towards either the Netgear DG834G or DG834GT. With the newer version of the DG834G it seems the only difference between the two are the wireless speeds.

Help.

I have a Billion 5200S router which I use as ADSL modem to my Linksys router. In my experience the speed in which a modem/router connects and its stability is far more a function of the line quality rather than the equipment used. So yes, the Billion is good, but whether it will connect faster and be more stable than your Telkom router is questionable.

Thanks.

I had the Telkom200 and then the Netgear DG834G Ver.2 that I am giving to my Aunt. The Telkom one took ages to sync compared to the Netgear.

I have decided to get the Netgear GT.

What do you mean connects and syncs faster?
the actual handshaking that takes place between your router and the ISP ?
because if i'm not mistaken there is a certain procedure which all the routers should follow to establish a connection and that handshaking can not differ from router to router
Basically the infrastructure stays the same, the routers needs to abide the rules of the exchange or DSLAM in the sense of synchronizing

which would make synchronizing speeds the same

correct me if i'm wrong

It takes about 10 to 15 seconds after I switch on the Netgear router to surf the internet. On my previous Telkom one it took 1 to 2 minutes.

soz my bad

there is something wrong with that Telkom router then
as all the routers follow the same procedures to sync

Mine (see sig) probably takes a minute or two to start up, but then it's also starting the wireless LAN and USB services as well. I chose this model because it supports 3G HSDPA failover (and I've needed that after lightning strikes to my DSLAM lately).

As far as startup time is concerned, however, it's really not an issue because I leave the router running 24/7 behind a UPS and ADSL line surge protector. I have a few PCs at home connecting wirelessly to a Network Attached Storage device and printer, and the router is providing DHCP in addition to ADSL, so switching it off is really not practical.

So the Telkom router takes longer to boot probably becuase it has more funtions.
