There seems to be a lot of differing opinions over what to update and when.

Some rely solely on OS patches because of bricking fears or performance concerns and others religiously update the BIOS.

So I got curious who does what and why?

Yes I frequently update my BIOS.

Safety purposes, prevent forced stack overflow, efficiencies sake, proper maintenance etc

Just 10 votes? Come on people, yes the poll percentages might be buggy but we can all do math ourselves, the vote counts are showing. This is not the national elections, abstaining will not be a political statement!

It depends, if it hurts performance, then no.

But if it unlocks a feature that I need then i will.

If it does both then ill bite the bullet.

Not all manuf BIOS's receive(regular or continuous) updates ...

In that case always ensure OS is patched religiously and regularly.

My T420's BIOS is 5 years old I reckon and still fit as a fiddle.

Upgrading my Bios seems to help Fast boot speeds.

Seeing as I always boot into Grub first, it make boot time really snappy

Sure I do update my laptop and desktop BIOSes but mainly for more like I am not even sure something like let's say compatibility issues with SSD, M.2, RAM and CPU's , sounds interesting ? Security is also a reason for sure, but not that much.
