[Potential Spoilers] No explicit spoilers, but if you haven't played the game and you intend to, dont read on, just in case this post spoils something, somehow.

So I picked up BI during the summer sale. I had heard that it was a pretty good game and that the story was decent.

Now I just finished it and absolutely loved it. I loved the narrative. I loved the 25 minutes worth of closing gameplay that has zero combat in it, only story-telling. And the multiple twists! I can usually guess a twist long before the actual reveal in a story, especially in games. And when the ending came along, I had guessed them all, but the impact was still more than enough to make me feel satisfied at the story-telling skills. Then they bloody bring another twist out of nowhere, and I sat dumbstruck as the credits rolled....

... Damn, what a good game.

I bought it as well. Only problem is my PC is fried and I'm only buying a new mobo at the end of the month :(

It was good.
I still prefer the 1st Bioshock though.
It was very much like exploring an entirely new world.

I didn't play the first one. I have been through a long stretch of not enjoying FPS games. A really long stretch.
I bought, played and finished Dishonoured when it came out which was a massive detour from my usual gaming style. I then finished Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Enjoying the whole game and the gameplay, except the ending which I found very lacklustre. Finally, This Bioshock.

I think I might be fairly into this genre tbh. First person fantasy shooters. Going to find as many as I can get my hands on now. Will start with the first Bioshock I think.

1st Bioshock is amazing.
The setting and graphic style are really great.

Have you played the Fallout games?

Maiden head no more :(

This is going to sound funny but I stopped playing Bioshock on the final fight.
I basically finished the game and uninstalled it.
Then ppl started going on about how amazing the ending was and I couldn't have been cared to reinstall it and play again as I deleted my saved game.
I did go back and play the dlc though.

Burial at Sea is a must for Bioshock fans.

Comeon people, infinite in Rapture? :D

I have not. I think I started playing the first one years ago, but it was on a friend's pc so had like 30 minutes of it or something. I will look into it. I must say though, I am not really into straight up shooters with guns and only guns as your weapons. I am not sure what type fallout is yet, but even if the story is quite fantasy-centric; if the gameplay is all about guns, I tend to get pretty bored.

The point I'm at now in BI has me totally bored. It's insufferably pretentious at times and the action just isn't up to par with what I expect from an FPS. Just running and gunning and getting confused with which power I'm meant to be using so I end up defaulting to zapping everyone because I can't figure out what I'm meant to use a parliament of crows for. I'll probably finish it but I'm quite disappointed how it's turning out so far.

You are not really meant to use any power at any given time. The one and only time that a particular power is mandatory is when getting the electric one and powering some stuff. Other than that, you just run and gun with the two that you like the most.

I liked the devil's kiss and the bucking bronco the most until getting the last one.

Same. I found the gameplay to be extremely boring, stopped playing after a dew hours.

Yeah see that's the whole problem. Just running and gunning with a couple of favourite weapon combos is not acceptable gameplay for a modern FPS. I'm actually playing through the HL2 episodes with Fakefactory mods and the amount of variance in every single gunfight is exhilarating. You constantly have to switch up weapons and strategies. Not to mention that the dialogue is much sharper than BI's - and this is a 7 year old game (Vortigaunt sees charred corpse: "Ah, an eternity's repose. It brings peaceful thoughts, does it not?")

Sadly, I've become bored with Bioshock as the series has developed.

Not sure why, was just more of the same for me.
