Hi guys,

See that BIS 3.0 is coming soon (21st of March from RIM - see http://crackberry.com/bis-3-0-coming-soon-next-week)! Some of the juicy bits:

IS 3.0 (March 2010):

* Improved the Gmail plugin
* Synchronization deleted messages, read / unread and sent between the box and your own Gmail (so far worked only in the opposite direction)
* The ability to add and remove labels from your device

BIS 3.1 (Soon after):

* Synchronize Google Calendar
* Synchronize your address book from Hotmail account
* Synchronize your address book from Yahoo
* Yahoo mailbox will cause an automatic download of Yahoo messenger on the device

The above is from a thread last year on mybb. Has this happened on MTN yet?

Reason i ask is it says that two way sync will be in there for gmail. I still get emails unread that i have read on my browser and i have to mark as unread manually. 20+ mails a day and this gets quite annoying. Anyone know a way around this?

This has been the case on Vodacom for at least a couple of months now. I sync my Google Calendar as well as as my Google Contacts, and my read-status works as well (after a while).

I'm sure MTN is the same - as far as I know MTN and VC share the same BIS Server in Europe.

To get this to work, though, I had to basically get the new setup app up and running on my phone. My e-mail setup link used to go to a WAP page which didn't support the functionality to "authenticate" your email account to set up calendar and contacts sync. The two-directional read status worked from the start, though.

If not, try resending service books and if that doesn't work, delete the mail account and add it again from your BIS setup.

I also sync my contact and calendar via BIS but the read status doesn't work at all.

You can test it by setting up a filter in GMail to mark the mail as read immediately. Say from a specific address. It should be pushed to your phone, but will appear on your phone as read. As far as I know this only works with the BIS3.0 features.

As I said, the read status isn't quite immediate - but usually by the next day my read items have been synced.
