Hi guys

I'm trying to see if it's just me, but BIS service lately is absolutely rubbish. I can't open any pages, timeouts all over the place, even trying to run a SpeedTest most times isn't successful, and IF it eventually does complete the speeds are absolutely pathetic. I'm honestly not looking for the greatest speeds, but when the service I am paying for won't even allow me to open a webpage without me reloading the page several times, I don't really see what the point of paying for the service is??

My upgrade is due in February, and honestly now I will go for any other phone and rather pay extra for a data package that works!

Alas - it is Not only you experiencing the problem. From 7 o clockish both my wife and I are having the same bis issues. We both are on Vodacom (?).

Yep, I am with you guys and sadly with vodacom too

Based on what I had read here and in the press, it appears that BIS via VC has issues.

What would you guys suggest when it comes to porting to another network, and if so, which one?

Yeah, yet another thread about a problem that's been a problem ever since rim went down for 4 days.

Seems people feel the need to start entire new threads on old problems.

Useless post!

Same here. It seemed to come right for a while after all the recent issues but is now so unreliable. I too will be changing phone makes at my renewal date and adding a data package.

There is some issue somewhere ... Our BES systems are struggling to connect to the servers in the UK ... sometimes end up connecting to some arb African country's system

BIS is useless at the moment  I've tested from multiple locations and it's the same slow useless BS everywhere.

Vodacom is being silent (surprise surprise) on the issue. Having been through this scenario before I know the symptoms of what's going on. The data link to Europe's RIM network is no doubt once again maxed out due to Vodacom overselling the service Yet Again !!

The last time this happened it dragged on for nearly 4-5 months before Vodacom got their butts into gear and got the line upgraded. Sadly no genius at Vodacom seems to be able to predict that things are going south when their line's reach 80% usage, nope instead they wait for it to max out to 100% and for all the users to be inconvenienced before anyone does anything about it. And I specifically warned them at the time this would be the situation in a year's time and here we are again.

Like last time it might take ages before they ever admit it or deny it but I do know the symptoms of shoddy BIS when the link to Europe is under major pressure and just not coping. I'd LOVE  to hear otherwise from someone at Vodacom.

I agree but some planning from highly paid vodacom network analysts should avoid stuff like this ever happening. The links to the RIM network should be able to cope with any scenario and should not be operating 24/7 at 100% usage.

Vodacom has got no control over it, or very little.

Just a pipe going straight to the European BIS servers from South Africa.

OH No's, and here I was going to purchase 2* BB's for Christmas for the young one's. So NO VC then (I already destroyed their VC sims), who else then?

I bought a BB with 3G earlier this year on Vodacom. It was utterly useless with anything other than BBM and Facebook  Speeds were at most GPRS equivalent.

Anyway, 9 months later and I have now left Vodacom (after over a decade of being their customer) and am enjoying full 3G speeds and wide selection of apps on Android.

Ultimately that says nothing about BIS, you went from 1 provider on BIS to another off BIS, does not make BIS on provider 2 better when your not actually using it.
I was also with Vodacom, i also had **** BIS, along with most people on MTN and CellC and I also got an Android and am having awesome 3G speeds, never had to switch provides to do it.

My Facebook is pretty useless.

With full 3G signal, it often sits at 'requesting' for 30-60 seconds - then either times out or goes through slowly. Googling anything is pretty useless too.

I'm not sure whether it's RIM or the network, but if RIM has anything to do with it, they can't really blame us for going Android or iPhone

BB seems to be a student phone haha, can't afford any real data package at the moment so enjoying the "uncapped" phone internet for general facebook, mybb and bbm

The Vodacom BIS (or BS) network is so riddled with problems and Vodacom just keeps quiet. As of tonight there's a new Blackberry bug in the network which is causing the entire phone to freeze up for about 60-90 seconds and then when it unfreezes it's sluggish as hell. I know it's 100% network related because when I turn the mobile network connection off everything on the phone is fast. The moment I turn mobile network back on it starts freezing the phone again and it only started tonight about 2 hours ago, no new apps or anything have been installed on the phone. It's just utterly amazing how Vodacom has allowed their network to degrade to this state, disgraceful !!!

Its the damn kids, they all on holiday and download terabytes of crap.

Not just the kids, here on MBB is also a few people who's manhandling the BIS eco system to download rerabytes worth of stuff. It's because of those ignorent people, that the rest is suffering and will suffer in the future when they bring in plans to counter them. It's not gonna be good.

When i first got a blackberry I was in love. Everything internet related would be done on my BB. My android was used for calls and SMSes. Lately though I find myself using my Android more and more for internet.
