BIS useless lately

When i first got a blackberry I was in love. Everything internet related would be done on my BB. My android was used for calls and SMSes. Lately though I find myself using my Android more and more for internet.

Same here, except I got an android phone after my BlackBerry. Since then I rather pay extra for data and get a better experience. Started off with the cell c recharge rewards, then went to the 8ta 10gb deal. But the blackberry rarely gets used for browsing.

OP, same issue here on my BB 9700. Vodacom.

edit: only useless at my new job in kenilworth by the race track. Other than that, still pretty frustrating.

Being very careful what to say against vodacom. I have been moaning about bis on voda for months, I was promised 2 weeks someone would get back to me or have some answers, that was months ago.
The service is degraded, MTN is far better.
My opinion is the network is a shambles or they do not want to prioritise bis and would rather we pay inflated prices for data

I just got off the Vodacom BIS bus recently, and have a Droid RAZR on VC now. Never again do I want to see a BB.

BIS is what drew me to BB in the begining and BIS chased me away in the end.

does anyone know why would my airtime get taken from vodacom

i downloaded 2 songs cause its tooo slow ...i dont download at all on bis just browse but when i did i saw airtime gone

i am not sure if its opera cause the bb browser is krap and opera is better

is there something wrong cause im on top up and it took around r30 of airtime

Well I got me a Curve on vodacom ( in-laws ) and they're trying download a xmas clip that was sent to the phone. Can't even open the page. While on my 9900 on mtn, I'm watching Dstv 3G mobile and surfing this forum.

Vodacom is a bloody disgrace and all our moaning here gets us nowhere.
I cannot wait to port back to MTN, I would rather deal with their useless billing dept. then have to deal with Vodacom crap speed.

Well after being patient and waiting for Vodacom to take action and fix the MANY problems on the BIS network, I have kissed RIM and Blackberry goodbye. I simply cannot spend my life waiting for a multi billion Rand company with very highly paid employees to do nothing. It's a damn shame because I have been on BB for over 3 years but this last year has been a total nightmare. Now that I have switched to another platform (no need to mention which) I am so much less stressed and I can do everything I want immediately, no waiting.

So what I have to pay for a few hundred megs of data every month, who cares, at least everything I do now is instant and I don't have to sit pulling my hair out everytime I want to do a simple 10 second job which ends up taking 10 minutes.

Maybe one day Vodacom/Vodafone/RIM will get their act together, till then I am FREE of the hassles and utter frustration of what was once a great platform.

PS: Notice how VodacomData (the vodacom representative) never once replies to anything posted here about Blackberry. Vodacom only ever answers stuff when its something they can fix, when they are silent you know there is big problems. The Blackberry Authentication bug (sos/sim rejected) has been floating around the vodacom network now for well over 10 months, still unfixed :(

Well, after just over one year with Vodacom BlackBerry, I have to say that both are losing me...in fact, they've LOST me. October, my contract comes to an end. I have to admit that Samsung Galaxy is calling me and I'm interested to see what will be out around that time.

What I DO know is that I am not upgrading to another BlackBerry (even QNX/ OS 10) and I am not upgrading with Vodacom. The more you grow, the more you learn, the more you know - and knowing is half the battle . G.I. Joe!

The biggest problem I can see is not so much the speed, but the network latency. Consistently getting 5000+ms response times. Surely this should be an easy thing to check?? I'm not asking for blindingly fast internet, just something that works. Is anyone else seeing response times like this?

RIM is losing customers all over the scene. They should better look at how the networks implement the BB internet policy.

The one thing I do like about Blackberry is the QWERTY / touch :/

I'm going to miss that ... anything else with it?

Seriously I am tired that BIS useless for browsing that is but try downloading something and things come down at full speeds after certain hours. I think Vodacom are seriously throttling their BIS Network it's no freaking excuse. I feel like doing a petition and if X amount of days to resolve the issue aren't met. I am sure many will leave BIS totally. R59 x 100 R5900 goodbye for the network. I have had it with their slow pathetic speed before things were fast on their EDGE network now things are pathetically slow on 3G. I have another device it sails like no tomorrow without loading and VODACOM have that 411 info. Please do a battery pull, etc. I want my solution to be resolved not to troubleshoot I know how to do that. Seriously I am annoyed the only reason I keep BIS is for emergency as data is expensive but for general browsing 100meg+ will be more than suffice for general stuff but when you have foursquire, twitter,RSS Reader, weather etc, they do consume data. On my droid i consume loads of data cause market app - always has updates for apps and normally they range from 10meg+ and no I don't have DSL :(

Completely agree they are throttling it. We only have ourselves to blame. We should all get together and take vodacom to court

Vodacom are just money hungry for profits if they probably have over 1.5 million active blackberry subscribers so that will make them over R80 million and probably half of that money goes to RIM or something.

I will boycott BlackBerry and Vodacom cause every store I see someone walks into the store and buy a BlackBerry from Vodacom. I have even seen numerous adverts - people selling BB 9900 for R3000-4000 reason internet is pathetic on BB. Nothing is wrong with BB it's the network to blame. If they didn't leak the press release but they throttling after 100 meg of use. Seriously that is unacceptable. I pay for a service it clearly says unlimited browsing and their is a simple way to block downloading - find the most popular sites people use to download mp3's etc block them problem solved.
