Both my girlfriend and I have been having problems connecting to BIS today, sometimes it's on, sometimes off. A bit annoying if trying to browse, or if you are waiting for an email!

Anyone else experiencing this? Im in Centurion if that makes a difference...

As usual Vodacoms call centre denies having any problems, but yet they always do, so cant rely on them...

I did experience problems earlier on for around 3minutes or so but everything is resolved - have you tried to do a battery pull sometimes it does help.

Agreed vodacom call centre does deny things and all they can do to help you is to push the service booklets on the device.

Also another thing I noticed depends what BIS service routes you connec to - I was in the uk germany, usa, etc - check on - www.whatismyip.com

Also experienced problems with BIS today. Lasted like 2hours if not longer. East of jhb

That is the same stock standard suggestion vodacom always has, do a battery pull. But it seems to be working now.

Thanks will check out myip, interesting, never thought of that.

Seems like the network is stable now first time I am experiencing fast speeds - I am thinking if it has something to do with infrastructure.

Check your IP on a reguler base. I get some ips starting from 93,99 and another 2 I forgot - also check out for network notices from BlackBerry about BIS

I'm on MTN and my Opera apps just died today. I deleted it due to frustration. Facebook was also a issue but okay now. Storm2 had a hanging day today just wish MTN update their firmware update they are two behind Vodacom.

A couple of people were experiencing problems with the face book app.

Opera died on me on Sunday had to do a fresh new install - my phone was freezing on my bb messenger every time.

One thing for sure BB can't handle apps like HTC, loaded some apps and the phone is not handling the load too well. I think me will unload them apps. I'm going to do a fresh install of Opera 5 now.

Agreed - the only reason I got BB was to safe on data charges was spending like R60 or mmore a week visit websites.

I just hope the new Storm, pearl and curv to come out have better features.

Vodacom had an automated message last night on their 155 number, saying they were having problems with their data throughput in Southern Gauteng, so I'm guessing the same issue was influencing BIS yesterday.

@GTi - What Blackberry do you have, I have been playing on my girlfriends Bold 2 and it is considerably better than my first generation Storm. It has more application memory first of all, and it can multi task with no lag. But it's still new, so things might change as she loads more and more apps.

My Storm is starting to really irritate me, some apps that I load (facebook, twitter) cause the phone to restart every few hours. Then it just waits for my pin number. Generally takes me a while to realize, by then my girlfriend is fuming because she cannot get hold of me....:(

I was on BIS and to be honest I never experienced any problems whatsoever also take to note I have EDGE handset not 3G - I did find some people on twitter moaning about 3G not working at all in the South could of just been 3G effected - and they busy doing update/upgrades some people now manage to receive EDGE connectivity.

Oh had to also do like 10 battery pulls and twitter was not the cause - I am sure it is network related

BIS working for everyone today? It's completely off for me here in Alberton (Brackenhurst). I have no Blackberry logo in the top corner and I have 3g insteady of 3G. When I try to open a web page it says,

You are not currently in an area that can handle data communication. As a result, the Browser cannot retrieve any Web pages.

Please try again when you are in a differenc location, or contact your service provider if the problem persists.

Email is still coming through though. Was having problems with general Vodacom signal as well earlier, but after putting my SIM card in another phone for an hour and then putting it back in the BB I can now make and receive phone calls. Just the BIS is nonexistent.

Just contact 155 and request for your service booklet to be sent to your phone again - I am in the South and I am not having any problems.

Make sure BIS is activated manage connection - service status also go under options - advanced options - host routing table click on berry button and request

I had the little edge problem the other day. Vodacom recommended re-registering my handset on the network by going to options > Advanced Options > Host Rooting Table and then selecting register now from the menu.

It says it's not active.

All I have under host routing table is

GPRS ZA (655) [65500130]
Wi-Fi [601]
GPRS ZA (655) [65500730]
GPRS ZA (655) [65501030]

I have no clue what any of that means. This is my first BB.

Hmm, okay, even though I have full signal it won't let me call out. I just keep getting "Call failed."

Edit: And I can't receive calls either. :(

Are you on contract? If so maybe your line is soft locked reached call limit - try put in another simcard and try make a call - call failed could mean the network is down/congested - who's your carrier/service provider also do this go to options - status - check for this signal -i get 87 dBm
