BitCo Consumer Review

So after checking with Pitbull, it seems there is no packet loss issues in CS:Go on his side using Bitco! Quite happy about this, accepting quote tomorrow for a 10mbps package! Now just hoping LOS isn't an issue :)

I would love a small guide

You would need the following internet (WAN) details from your current Bitco router.

1. Static IP Address
2. Subnet Mask
3. Gateway
4. DNS Server

After obtaining those details, follow these steps (This was for a TP-Link W8980, yours could differ but it will be more or less the same):

1. Change the operation mode from ADSL Router to Wireless Router
2. Setup a WAN connection with Static IP
3. Fill in the information from previous router (IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS)
4. Make sure the Cisco Managed Switch is plugged into the WAN port and restart your router

After the restart you will be connected.

CS:GO installed and will run it for a few hours tonight and update Sumi.

How did you test for packet loss if I might ask, or did you purely go on feel?

How long did you test for as well, reason I ask somedays I used to get it like once every 30mins, and on bad days like once every 30 seconds.

Some days I'll lose a single packet at time and I can see on the net graph (type in net_graph_1 in the console to get this up) it indicates 1% loss at the point in time, on the bad days it'll lose a few packets in a row and jump up to 40% loss

@SumiZA, glad you decided to join Bitco. I'm sure you'll be happy.

@Wikkels:
Sumi had me perform some commands on the console which then shows your ping, loss and some other things on screen while playing. We played around together for a while. He also could check my ping on the console and take up my view while playing kinda like a 1st person spectate view. If that makes sense.

Now I just need to play this game more, seems lots of fun. Just had to cap my Conquest points on WoW last night. That is almost done then I can give CS:GO the attention it deserves :o

You rock! Looks like it works.

And oddly enough, I have the TP-Link W8980.

Small fast question:
Does anyone keep their cisco routers on and connected during thunderstorms with a lot of lightning?
If so, is the dish earthed?
Does the lightning not hamper the signal?

Some CS GO servers have been *** for a while, major packet loss. Bitco and ADSL. Been terrible

Its very easy to establish if its server side or on my side, just listen if everyone else is bitching in the game about it:D 9/10 everyone reports no issues and I'm rubberbanding all over, but there have been 2-3 occasions where you hear the whole team complain

Hi Colin77,

Its up to you if you would like to keep your connection online during a thunder storm, all our equipment is properly earthed and is not affected by lightning storms, the only time your connection could be affected by a rain storm is if the rain is heavy enough to physically block the Line of Sight

This is very rare and unlikely but could happen if the storm is large enough

The equipment could be hit by lightning but the POE and earthing protects the equipment 99% of the equipment most of the time

Mike

Well interesting question...

The actual radio on your roof is earth via the shielded cat5 cable to your mains earth. This is to protect from ESD. As far as I understand it the pole to which the dish is attached should (i speak under correction) have it's separate earth straight to ground for lighting via a ground rod.

Lighting in the area will not affect the signal but is more a health hazard for the electronics if you have a nearby strike.

EDIT: Mike beat me too it

The pounded in a 1.5 - 2m copper rod into the ground and earthed the dish to it at my place

Well,

I have been a BitCo customer since end November 2014. This is my "3 Month" review for those interested.

Simply put, for those that don't want to read alot, BitCo is the best internet provider that I have ever been a customer off. Sure there have been some teething issues and I (like other newer customers) are still waiting for a public IP, but other than that, there is simply no reason why anyone should bother with any other provider. If you have the means, you need to make the switch now.

In the past 3 months, the longest I have not had internet has been for 24 hours. This was no fault of BitCo. In fact I applaud BitCo for only been disconnected for 24 hours. The tower that my dish is pointed at, was cut down to steal whatever. BitCo built a new tower, cemented it and had everything up and running within 24 hours. I think that this is awesome.

I have also found that if you need a response, use Twitter. @BitCo_SA. Response time is phenomenal.

So, in my humble opinion, as a BitCo client, be it rain or shine, thunder and lightning or at 10 o'clock at night, my experience so far, you do actually get the service that is promised and advertised on their website.

Well done and please keep it up.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info.
I do have 2 x 2m copper rods on hand should the techs be able to install at my place on 26th Feb, just don't have cable and lugs

Thanks for the review. Can I get more info on the public IP issue. Does this mean you don't have a public IP? Would this affect the ability to use a DYNDNS service ie. how would I connect to my home camera security system?

Thanks

Also, just for clarity on the FUP...... are legit large downloads e.g. PS4 games throttled to half speed or will they run at full speed?
