BitCo Consumer Review

No LOS for me. Guess it's time to move on to some other options or sit on Telkom's neck about my line.

So my installation was done on Monday afternoon... Can't wait for them to do the handover...

Just some feedback on the Netflix questions some of you guys asked. My kids was streaming 2 Movies from Netflix last night via the PS3. (Stardard Def) I didn't opt for the HD account yet on Netflix still seeing if it's worth it. Will prob update it this weekend :D

Anyway, kids watched, Avengers first and then Smurfs 2 back to back. The movies didn't buffer once and they watched for close to 4 hours non-stop. This all on a 2Mbps line. I tried to game a bit of Rust while they where watching and I could play fine the ping was just a bit high with a lag spike here and there.

Think I will need the 5Mbps at least for the HD netflix account.

Hope this helps those who was concerned about Netflix.

Does anybody have some speed tests of the 10Mb account. Would like to see the ping and latency if you have it. Still no call for LOS test so i hope they haven't forgot about me.

@Pitbull, you will stream HD just fine on 5mb, looking at my line usage on my current provider, it hangs around 2.8 to 3.5Mb when doing 720p from Netflix. Hulu uses more though, about 4 to 4.7Mb but i suspect that is 1080p because on my Roku it does not give me an option to see what it runs at.

Looks like I'll be upgrading to the 10MB in July. With how well netflix and hulu are working on the 5MB bitco, I have cancelled my DSTV premium and would rather take that R800 from the dstv subscription and put it towards upgrading my 5MB to a 10MB :D

Hi tRoN

We can't guarantee voip quality with another provider but it should still be good quality. We have very large peering with most of the networks so latency and jitter shouldn't be a problem for voip.

Hey Garth

One quick question.
I have an xbox one and the new thing is digital downloads. On the odd month, I would prob need to download a game from xbox live. The sizes vary from 15-45gb would this class as abuse?

A download of 50GB for an xbox game is not a problem. If you had to download via torrents during the day while you are at work this would be considered abuse.

More info on your VoIP offering please @ Garth?

We just changed the pricing for our residential voice today:

R69 per month for a SIP account and calls are 85c per minute to cellular.

We can also supply cordless phones that work with the SIP accounts.

If you have an existing Telkom or Neotel number we can also port it away so you can remove the current provider completely without changing your number. Saves extra money which can be put to good bandwidth.

I upgraded from a 2Mbps connection to 5Mbps.

To those who are wondering. Once the call has been logged it gets switched over pretty quickly to the new speed. You will be off the network for a little bit but once it's back up it sails (I have no idea what the downtime was as I was at work). Again, no problem at all on the customer service side. If more companies would just be as customer focused as Bitco, the Internet space in SA would have been a whole lot better. You guys have given me confidence in SA telecoms again.

On the 5mbps line the follwing was all done last night:

1. PS3 was streaming Netflix - Laaitjie was watching some Ben10 things :D
2. Daughter was playing on the Ipad surfing Youtube
3. I was installing Wildstar.

The streaming went down perfectly on the 2 devices. The install I could see the download rate on the patches and it fluctuated a bit between 500/600 kbps to around 100/200 kbps. (I do however think this is due to the installation of Wildstar and not due to the streaming the kids was doing) Looks like the download was using Peer to Peer and changed between seeds constantly.

I'm still exceptionally happy with the network. Keep up the good work guys :)

Any feedback from you on your connection loo?

None at this stage... Called them on Wednesday late afternoon and still in testing... Waiting to hear from them. Will call them later today to see what is happening.

Wow, maybe chat to Garth via PM. This is a bit odd ...
