BitCo Consumer Review

Hi tRoN

We can't guarantee voip quality with another provider but it should still be good quality. We have very large peering with most of the networks so latency and jitter shouldn't be a problem for voip.

But are VoIP protocols given priority on the network?

Looks like I'm the only one giving bad reviews in this thread, but **** it, been playing games for about 2-3 hours now, now my speed gets throttled to this http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3590558846 wtf?? a.) its not business hours, and b.) gaming for 2-3 hours would hardly use 300-400mb, I wouldnt call that abusing??? although the speed test shows 54ms ping, it spikes to about 200ms on local CSGO servers at that slow speed(normally I get stable 20ms), which makes the game unplayable, tested Diablo 3 as well, just to make sure its not the CSGO servers, and confirmed international pings also higher than normal, spikes well over 500ms, way to **** my friday night/Saturday morning of gaming bitco:mad:

Mmmmm the thought of Bitco being to good to be true surfacing ever so slowly:erm:

I'm thinking it's just your connection... My wife and i have been playing wow together all morning and my daughter is watching Netflix kids and we haven't had an issue.

Yeah it seems like something is definitely up with my connection, this morning the speeds are back to normal, but playing CSGO my latency is still unstable as hell....Either way not a happy customer, because everyone else has no issue with their connection, and its over the weekend now(the time I do most of my gaming) and now there's nothing I can do about it:(

I got this internet for the main reason of playing games, been a month now, and so far not performing as expected, if I wanted unstable internet like this, I'd be using 3G:p

A wild guess but perhaps you need a RF Armor Shield on your dish?

Still enjoying this thread. Thanks for all the continual feedback.

Now...about those installation and equipment photos???

Still getting random lag spikes more than one game, although the speed tests look normal, something is definitely not right :(

To test, try something like Battleping.com (use the free 20 min trial and then login to Diablo and see if you get the random lag spikes). If you do then its something with your setup that bitco needs to check. If you don't then it could be some kind of port priority shaping or something to that affect.

I had a break in connection yesterday at around 17:00 till 17:20. Right after that thunderstorm hit Pretoria. Might be related. Appart from that no problems what so ever.

Bitco never seems to amaze me: the level of service i outstanding. I have been without power since yesterday afternoon and today received a call from Bitco asking whether there is anything wrong with my link.

I hope they will be this proactive when theres an issue with the link. Kinda make me look forward to that.

AWESOME Service Guys: Keep up the GOOD work

Well I wish I could say the same... Its been a week since installation. No one phoning me back to say when its going to be up.
Had a call earlier. Lucky I was home and the lady asked me about the router and I told her the switch and wireless router is here and she asked me about the boxes.... well that was it said she will call back and nothing as yet.

So at the moment well no joy and happiness as yet. Maybe they going to tell me no LOS as I am a pain in the ... (you know what...) :D

Hey Garth any news or feedback on the PM that you busy looking into?

Hi loo

We had a bit of a wobble with yours and a few other installs where the router labels were swapped around so the IP address details were wrong. I believe someone has been scheduled to go to your house tomorrow to swap with the correct router.

Sorry for the delay...

So I let some downloads run during the day on my 2mbs, got home @ about 18:30 saw my speed was throttled to 1mbs (no biggie, its in the FUP after all), turned my pc off so that my speeds can be back to normal by the time I game later the evening (you know because if you lay off the downloads for a hour or so they give you back full speed again) fast forward 2 and a half hours and still less than half the speed http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3595720006, and they claim they'll only throttle you in business hours IIRC .... Anyway I know it looks like I'm complaining a lot, but this is a review thread after all, and the past few days its not been performing the same way as those first few weeks, my pings are higher on all games, with the occasional spike/rubberbanding issue and my speeds take longer to return to normal after torrent downloads, lets just hope that its an issue with my connection that can get sorted from their side, and that this is not "working as intended"

Hi Guys,

What is the FUP for 5mb package? Will I get throttled say from 10pm-5am? Does netflix count as using and abusing the internet that they halve the speed?

Thanks
Oliver

Not necessarily their actual policy, replying purely on what I've experienced.

FUP are the same on all packages, so your speed should get dropped to only 2.5mbs (although don't be surprised if it goes below 2mbs)

According to them they only throttle business hours, but I've been throttled after hours on occasion (like tonight)

From what I understand only torrents should count as abusing(So netflix should not be included) although I've found if I stream twitch channels for extended periods I get throttled.

Not trying to be negative towards Bitco here, they're by far a better solution than Telkom (so far) but I've experienced some hiccups with them

I have not heard the business hours thing. I might have missed it. From my understanding any download at max line speed for an hour continuously would then have you throttled to 1/2 the line speed. Once the Downloads stop for an hour the line speed returns to normal. (I actually agree with this as it minimizes unattended downloads) If you want to download P2P when at work you should expect to not have a full line speed when you get home. Just makes sense.

I have been throttled at times and I know why and when since I have certain downloads that just needs to happen and takes longer than an hour. (Steam game downloads). But I can still play fine with a throttled line as my ping is not affected.

Hi Oliver, from my experience: If you run a download at full line speed for an hour + you will be throttled no matter the time. **If this is not the case and out of business hours it doesn't or not suppose to as per Wikkels then I was not aware of it and didn;t even check. I know the FUP and if I get throttled I know why.

I had a 2Mbps line speed with them and at time throttled to 1Mbps. I have since upgraded to 5Mbps and now if I'm throttled I'm still above the initial 2Mbps I had.

My internet is purely for streaming Hulu+, Netflix and then Youtube for the kids as well as gaming for myself. I'm not a hard downloader ripping torrents a new one. I might download a series here and there but appart from that the net is working for me.
I suppose it's knowing what you getting into and your personal usage. With my kids on school holiday now, I'm guaranteed to be throttled everyday for the whole month they're at home. I know this and just have to live with it...

Damn kids :D

Hi Wikkels88

There was an issue with your link which should have been resolved last night. Can you please test. If you have any issues still please PM me or email support.

Hi Guys

Pitbull is correct with his description. It doesn't depend on the time or type of traffic. If you max out your line for roughly an hour your speed will slow down to about 50% of the full speed.

We don't contend our Internet at the moment and hopefully will never need to by using this policy. This is why our Internet is so snappy and responsive and not like DSL where you have 10000 subscribers all trying to get access via the same IPC. :)
