BitCo Consumer Review

I had my install on Friday , but don't think it's a one day process , after the install there is a handover phase where they test the connection for 2 or 3 days , then only will you receive a router . I'm just saying this so you don't get your hopes up of having internet the day of the install :D (like I did) . So far the install and follow up has been very professional and they use top of the line equipment (Cisco switches)

Hi Guys

Yes, noemfie is correct. We need to test the link for a couple of days to ensure it is 100% before we hand it over. We are now installing a preconfigured router at the same time the link is installed so we don't need to ship it after it is handed over. As soon as it is handed over you will be able to use it.

That's a bit of a bummer :(

Thanks though @noemfie for the heads up, I would have been expecting to use the link from day one :p

We are still new to residential services and are improving our installation process and should have it down to 1 day soon.

Hi Sl8er

We have a core network in Cape Town based on fibre in the area. We have made plans to begin rollout in Cape Town near the end of this year. Probably not what you want to hear but this is a very large and expensive rollout.

Just as a matter of interest, what area do you need services in? We are identifying areas that lack decent infrastructure and will install these areas first.

I was just curious. :)
Welgelegen and Table View.

Im also an avid gamer, Battlefield 4, Day-Z, COD and Diablo III are just some of the online games we enjoy at home. Since changing from ADSL over to this system every single game has gotten better.

Can anyone tell me where they are based and what there in game ping is on Battlefield 4? Ping is the only thing keeping me from switching over and I can't get a definitive answer anywhere.

I found a BitCo pamphlet in my post-box last week, up until then I was considering adsl. I also have a few questions:

1) Are we assigned a public IP address (i.e. are we connectable from the Internet? can I set up my own web server?)

2) Someone mentioned on this thread that it uses the 5GHz spectrum, but it is not 802.11a/n, that's all I have. What is the saturation point (users per hisite)? i.e. will it get to a point where there are so many users per hisite that we are contending with each other for limited bandwidth, then it becomes like adsl? Is there a web site I can have a look at the technology used? Is it more like WiMax?

How long is the turnaround time to get them to call you? I gave my details on Friday, got a email saying that my call has been assigned to a agent, but no call yet, mmmmmm getting nasty flashbacks of dealing with Telkom:p

Hi larryn

1) You get your own static IP address on your router that you can do port forwarding on. We don't NAT a public IP address down to our clients as some operators do. You would be able to host a server easily.

2) We have some sites with over 40 users on and do not have any issues with speeds on these high sites. When a area becomes very busy we either bring fibre down to our clients or we build a second high site to cover the area.

Hi Wikkels88

We usually get back to all sales emails within 24 hours. Please PM me your full name and I will follow up for you.

Hi JollyAvenger

We prioritise all games as business so latency and jitter is as low as possible. I can confirm that all EA servers are prioritised. If anyone finds a game that is not performing well we will be able to prioritise it.

Our latency to London sits at around 200ms constant.

Maybe some of the other users can give some feedback on their gaming experiences on BitCo?

Thanks for the reply Garth.

I just want to get a definitive answer before jumping ship. I currently get between 5-10ms on local BF4 servers and anything above 40ms I start noticing latency issues. Will wait to hear from the users :).

Maybe give some I.P.'s so that the guys can ping for you.

Received a call from the install team yesterday, installation booked for tomorrow :D

How long did it take from after the LOS test? The LOS guys didn't say much after the inspection other than that "head office" will ring us up.
