Everyone must use the internet at home on Saturdays :P

Download Speed: 918 kbps (114.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 942 kbps (117.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 25 ms
27/9/2014 12:26:28

I thought it was only me

I barely get 2.7MB on speedtest with absolutely nothing running on my 5MB line

I am now streaming at SD only as HD does not want to work :-(

Same issue on my side ... Barely getting full 10mb let alone 5mb service at all..

Not impressed at all. Whatever the issue I would appreciate forthcoming honesty from Bitco.

Your service started out excellent but now I have to admit I am getting cheesed off!

I can barely browse or download at full speed Whether it's 2pm or 2am.

If you can't cope with the bandwidth requirements from your customers please say so. Because as things stand you are not honoring your own contract.

Submitting tickets is a waste of time. You get the same old nonsense responses.

If you guys can't cope with the bandwidth requirements please let me know so that I can cancel.

Hey Guys,

See below the response from BitCo tech

So basically if you stream a movie and the movie is 2 hours long, you will be shaped at the end of the movie. This seems a bit pointless :-(

"Streaming a movie will activate the shaping on your link any form of downloads, streaming or updates can and will activate the shaping on the link.

The shaping on the link is based on a time period of avg usage over a specified amount of bandwidth. Exp: if you use 5Mb for full hour you will get shaped to 2Mb. If you use 3.5Mb for 2 hours you will get shaped. Is based on a time period and usage.

Regards"

Nah.. speeds normal in Nelspruit today.

2mb line:
Down 1947kbps
Up 937kbps
Latency 15ms

Where's the SLA? Promises on website?

Oh no, more strikes for my potential sign-up to this service.

So these last few posts of slow speeds, where is the guaranteed speeds that I was told about on the phone by the sales lady?

http://bitco.co.za/internet-solutions/home-internet-solutions/

This link seems to be mostly inaccuracies - which speaks of:
10Mbps
R 1,499 p/m
99% Uptime
Download Speed: 10Mbps; Upload Speed: 2Mbps
Uninterrupted HD Streaming
Suitable For: Fastest Browsing & Email, Large Uploads, Multiple HD Streaming Devices, P2P, Gaming

Whereas in fact it seems that when you do any of this, you are throttled after very short elapsed times.

Oh well. Will see what BitCo says to these posts and my email on Monday.

Over, and out.
John

In all fairness. The connection has gone back to normal. It's been a few days like this but all seems fine now.

Not sure what the problem was. They also have a planned maintenance tomorrow sometime and I saw previous posts talking about tinkering with the FUP policy so maybe that could be it.

@ravetoad: so far I have the service for a month and it has been nothing bit sterling! A far superior service than Telkom ADSL.

I hear you indeed, I want for this to work, so I am hoping they resolve these issues. My "10 Mbps" ADSL line syncs around 3-5Mbps, and even at 5Mbps certain things are not working well, so I really want >5Mbps service... and if the throttling is going to stop this then I am not any better off, but have spent more money to be there...

Let's see what happens.

Yeah even I'm back up to full speed this morning.

Look I have faith in bitco, despite the teething issues they are having and from what I can see they are teething issues.
I know sooner or later they will resolve my gaming latency spike issue, it's merely a matter of time before they find the issue.
Outside of my gaming issue the connection is generally great, I dont have any issues streaming, even when FUP'd.

I've signed-up for a 4Mbps 1:1 BitCo link in Bloemfontein. Quick installation, great service, however it has been almost month since the installation was completed and I still cannot go live due to technical difficulties on BitCo network.

I would advise potential Bloemfontein clients whom need to migrate to a better internet connection to be extremely vigilant when considering BitCo. I had no option but to seek assistance from an alternative provider to ensure our network of 150 users had sufficient internet connectivity. There are several other alternatives in Bloemfontein. At this point I am not satisfied and frustrated with BitCo.

Mr. Garth Van Sittert, I've committed to giving you and your team until noon Friday 12/09/2014 to resolve the difficulties.
Still not getting the service speeds I signed up for, the link has not been used since it was installed almost two months ago, and no support or update from Bitco, not even a pm, nothing.

Hi Click Here,

I see you are a wholesale provider taking premium bandwidth from us in Bloem.

I found your original support call and see it was resolved over a week ago and Jacques was going to give you feedback.

Everything is 100% and i have just tested the back haul myself

i will give you a call to discuss and ensure your issue has been fully resolved

Regards,

Mike

Hi All,

A busy forum thread this weekend :-)

I will be formally responding with feedback later this afternoon on all the posts above.

Thanks for all the feedback

Mike

Hope The FUP has been updated :)
and its good news...

waiting in anticipation like a kid on christmas

Nope, I'm actually the end-user and I only got the speeds signed up for as of this morning. BTW the wholesale provider provided our organisation with excellent service, and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and thanks to him.

Why is there no support over weekends?

Personally I would not expect anyone to work over weekends when I'm at home :p

I would however love it if there is some kind of a person on standby maybe? Working from home and if there is something network related that can be sorted remotely. I obviously would only bother if my link goes down and no connection for about 2 hours. But in that case not having someone to log in and fix it would mean I'm offline till Monday

Given, I have not had that problem yet, but it could happen. Maybe just an idea Mike :)

Have one technician have a on call cell number and only to be used in extreme network failures. No speed enquiries and crap but if a connection does go down for extended periods of time.
