BitCo Consumer Review

Interesting point you bring up Mike. If a new high site is put up, do you identify existing customers who, if migrated, would have a better connection?

I personally think it's a usage issues more than a provider issue. I subscribed to Bitco for 1 reason mainly: Gaming. The patches and updates I had to do on a monthly bases broke the bank using 3G and other service providers. I stumbled onto this thread and thought, brilliant let's give it a swing. So in essence I upgraded from Iburst/3G to Bitco. MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT! Constant pings, apart from 2 evenings that I have had Bitco now I have had slight connection issues but which network doesn't have it? Out of about 4 months of flawless internet I have had 2 evenings of up and down internet.

Since I had the capacity I figured, why not give streaming a go. Again, not the reason I got Bitco but Bitco worked for it so there was no issues. the FUP affected the streaming quality slightly and Bitco went out of their way to accommodate the streaming users as per request.

I must be honest and admit that some times I do use Bittorrent for a series season or downloading other stuff. Note this is not my reason for having internet to begin with and I'm fine with a series taking 2 days to download if need be.

For Porn I just watch Redtube, no need to download huge porn movies :D

Anyway, that is a bit of over share. What I'm trying to say is the following: If you want to torrent and download 24/7, yes Bitco is probably not for you. For us normal folks, Bitco is the perfect bang for buck alternative to ADSL. Unfortunately there are gamers like Murmaider that has issues with his connection and I honestly do hope Bitco can get it sorted for him. I saw first hand what he's experiencing and it does suck at his level of competition. I have not had such problems and I'm 100% happy.

My biggest appreciation is the fact that I post on here at 22:00 or 24:00 at night and get a PM from the Directors helping me. Now please tell me which other provider will help you on a forum that time of the evening? Mike, Garth, I'm an extremely satisfied customer and I do know you guys are probably getting a lot of growing pains now. Thank you for looking after our interests when it comes to gaming and streaming.

Please may I only ask you guys don't drop the ball on your customer support? I have never had to use that support route thanks to MyBB but would hate for me to have to use it and I don't get customer service. This seems to have been a problem as of late looking at the posts. *Think of it as positive criticism.*

Hey Pitbull

I have to agree with you on most of what you said. When BITCO is on form they are the bomb.
I deal with BITCO Business Division for a few of my customers and they really very professional.

Where i feel there is a let down is the Home Department in how i now paying a hell of a lot more for for what seems like less.
it feels like i am being told what i can and cant do with my service.

If i want to torrent or download or stream, whatever it should be up to me.

Under the new FUP I am now being told

- You must pay the same price as before!
- Don't download during the day !
- Download after 6pm but you will still be FUP-ed for abuse.

Come on that seems like a slap in the face.

However i am a fair person
and i am willing to give this new system a decent run.

but heaven help if i want to download my 22GB Sunset Overdrive during the day or my want to watch my Itunes HD Rented movie "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and i get throttled!!

(stay tuned i am waiting to for this when the new FUP goes live)

In the long run users should be punished for abuse but not at the expense of everyone else.

This New FUP does not cater to everyone and honestly this does feel a step back for me.

Fully agree with you , an ISP should either shape or throttle , now we have both from the looks of things . I understand the torrent shaping in business hours , that's why I schedule downloads during the night . But to get throttled for downloading after hours seems a bit unfair especially if its a PSN game etc . If only torrents are throttled fine . I will wait for the full explanation of new FUP before I comment further .

Regarding gaming etc , any chance that iRacing servers might get some priority to improve ping a bit ?

Hi Nico,

Sorry to hear about your experience

I will spend some time tomorrow discussing this with the Home Broadband Call Center as they need to focus on improving communication.

i have done a brief investigation into your order and found you are correct your installation is scheduled for 31st Of October, your services were loaded on the 17th and order reached my provisioning team on the 20th

I have looked into the folder and see the initial order was rejected due to incorrect documents being submitted by our call center, the order submitted had the incorrect address so it was unable to pass FICA checks

I will speak to the scheduling team tomorrow and see if i can push for an earlier date for you

Mike

Tx for the follow-up

BUT

Mike this is a just a complete untruth !! I already stated it in my thread - I supplied the Tshwane Municipal account for my house - The addres were I live and were the installation should be done. The account has my wife's initial as when we moved there she did the connection. I did explain this in my post...

HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THAT BE AN INCORRECT ADDRESS ??

I think the problem is you are trying to fool yourseves at Bitco... You are trying to move "blame" to the client ...

If you want to apologise to a client don't include a lie - it is just not the correct way to deal with clients.

Man-up and support the hopefully great product with the correct attitude - We all make mistakes it is how one rectify them that sets you and your business apart from the rest.

Cheers
Nico

Mike,

I have just put in my application to upgrade to 5mbps line since my existing 2mbps is so bad for streaming where I can stream a you tube video for 15mins then i'm throttled. As complained many times before, Now I have decided not to keep on moaning about it.

I'm not sure if it is Bitco's intention to get most of the users to get 5mbps line since it is R200 more from the 2mbps. But here you go, I have applied to upgrade my line to 5mbps. Hopefully I won't have any issues with this line.

Hi noemfie

Do you know the IP addresses of the servers you are using for iRacing? Are they in Europe or local?

Garth

/shudder

And to think I was about to pull the trigger on requesting a BitCo site-visit!

Are there any alternatives to BitCo in the Pretoria/Menlo Park area? Nasty FUPs and over-throttling scare me; I think I need to do some more homework here...

Hi eroux

We've done a rough count and a very small percentage of users hit the new FUP we will be implementing. Some of the users that have been the most vocal about it are just being absolutely ridiculous attempting to download torrents 24/7 and complaining that torrents are slow during the day. Some of our 50Mbps business users use less bandwidth during the month...

The basic rule is, do the heavy torrent downloading after hours. I tested last late night and was able to download a 200MB torrent file in about 30 mins on my own 5Mbps link without coming close to the FUP. If a 10GB gaming release comes out and you download it during the day so you can play after work, no problem, but games do not come out every single day like some users have attempted to convince us. One user ran constant torrents for 3 weeks non stop. We believe we were very fair when we contacted him and asked him not to do this.

There have been some 100% legitimate issues raised regarding streaming and the FUP which we believe we have resolved by increasing the time before it kicks in. This should allow everyone to watch video for an entire evening before it kicks in. If you watch until 3am then this may be a problem.

Hope this helps explain how we keep the Internet fast for 95% of users.

Excellent news. Can't wait to hear the finer technical details of the new FUP.

Overall I have a 10 MB connection and it is by far superior to anything else out there. I have Forex Traders, Heavy gamers, youtube and netflix barney watching 2 year olds, and 10+ devices connected all without a hitch.

And that is without the FUP.

Given where things are standing regarding BitCo as an oganization and Telco company if it were to list on the stock exchange I would throw large amounts of money at it. They really are growing by leaps and bounds and providing exceptionally superior quality products to their end users. You can immediately see that they were not geared for such large up take of residential consumers in the back office but you will also notice that they did NOT crash and burn horribly. All new ventures have teething problems but I can immediately see that this company is here to stay for the long haul!

@BitCo & Team: I am an extremely happy customer. I wish you guys all the success for future and you have my business and loyalty!

Otherwise let us know when you are playing so we can inspect the traffic.

Failed LOS in Parktown...

F__K!

2km from the tower, trees everywhere. The disadvantage of the "leafy suburbs".

Thanks for the laughs.

I have had the worst service from afrihost and telkom for more than a month now and can currently not even game. get 500kb on a capped (unshaped) 2mb line so I tried bitco. they came yesterday to check for line of sight and installed after which a woman phoned us and said that one of the directors made an executive decision to cancel it as it was 6.4km and he does not want the line to lose quality over this distance? the technician at the house said that he has installed on further distances and no issues so now im wondering why this was canceled? my girlfriend works from home and needs internet. currently using mobile data as our adsl line is unstable and slow speeds. is bitco the only other way to get away from telkom or adsl?

I know when mine was done that I was shown as 7.6km from tower.

yes but they installed and put everything up. it was 6.4km and the connections was good according to the guy that installed. then they took everything off and plastered the wall and left
