BitCo Consumer Review

It would be nice if you had visible pricing for business packages(which maybe the really heavy downloaders should use).

I got some info over phone but never received a mail with all the pricing.

Well lets see the new FUP :) Can watch stuff in HD without being throttled hopefully

Hey koeksGHT, i wouldn't get too excited just yet

If you watch more than 4 hours chances are you will get throttled as per the new FUP

SD would be your choice of viewing after that

So if you start at say 6pm then by 10pm you might be throttled

When i took my package it was advertised as "Uninterrupted HD Streaming" on my 5 MBPS package

Let me give the guys a definition of uninterrupted incase i get misunderstood

uninterrupted
ˌʌnɪntəˈrʌptɪd/Submit
adjective
without a break in continuity.
"an uninterrupted flow of traffic"
synonyms: unbroken, continuous, continual, undisturbed, steady, constant, sustained, consecutive, successive, in succession, non-stop, without stopping, unceasing, incessant, untroubled, smooth, peaceful; More
antonyms: interrupted, intermittent
(of a view) unobstructed.
"the window gives an uninterrupted view of the mountains"

So after 4 hours it would stop being Uninterrupted (Go Figure)

lol ASA complaint xD

Interesting point you bring up Mike. If a new high site is put up, do you identify existing customers who, if migrated, would have a better connection?

Sparky, looking at how "pedantic" and extreme they are on their adding users to a high site, i doubt there willl ever be a case of them activating a poor quality link (which is actually a very sound business idea - sell business quality links and you wont get complaints).

for the minor cases of interference, as experienced in one or two cases, they might need to consider looking at connecting the user to other highsites (or allowing him to exit the contract without penalty...)

Perhaps I should have phrased it as such, if a new high site is say 3 km away as opposed to my existing 7 km, would or should I be migrated? Even though my existing link is rock solid.

Hi Sparky_za

If you are currently 7km away we would very likely move you to a closer tower.

Question for the BitCo users (and BitCo itself, if possible).

I don't have BitCo yet (no coverage yet, apparently), but I'm watching it carefully.

My question : how does the average BitCo user's typical offshore downlink and uplink speed compare to local speed ?
For instance, if you do a SpeedTest to a local server (say, MWeb Jo'burg) versus one to (say) Vodafone UK in London, how do your results compare ?

And from the BitCo perspective, what is the service goal ?
I presume the BitCo 5 and 10Mbps services refer to peak local speeds, but what does the service aim (or even guarantee) to deliver in terms of offshore speeds ?

Hi jcheek

We have access to four international cable systems and we don't limit our international traffic at all other than p2p or seedboxes etc.

Unfortunately most international speed test servers are not very reliable when measuring more than 5Mbps and we don't really have any control of how they control bandwidth on their networks.

You will be able to max out your link with international capacity. I have seen Netflix streams of up to 6 or 7 Mbps on some of our 10Mbps subscribers and a lot of users max out their links with international traffic.

At the moment our bandwidth is 1:1 and I doubt we will have to change this in future.

Hope this helps.

Garth

Agree Garth. I have done a number of tests on my 10Mbps line and I get very close to local speeds when testing international.

Hi Guys

Horrible news about Eskom load shedding.

We currently have no Eskom power at dozens of high sites in Gauteng but no sites should be effected by load as most have at least 12 hours battery standby.

@No-Rules we are running upgrades at 2 sites that are not busy and you may have been effected for a minute or two. Sorry about that.
