BitCo Consumer Review

Why are some websites not working on my connection all of a sudden?

I am busy with a project and http://www.planespotters.net/ brings up nothing but a blank white page, the website works fine on other connections, I have tried all the computers in the house and all bring up the same thing. It was working fine last week.

Have you tried clearing your browsing data... Cookies...

I strongly urge you to consider using Clearwater Mall as an option for a new high site (the installer took photos). There are 3 existing towers up with good view of the surrounds and a Telkom exchange there so likely good existing infrastructure to leverage off of.

Then of course there's the fact that I have perfect LOS and they are < 1km from me.

Think about it.

Please :(

Rob

Hi OrionVC,

Good news for you is we are actually in the process of building a new high site right next to Clear Watermall which would cover the entire area and you would be able to get a link

I don't have time lines yet but definitely in the queue to be built before March 2015

Each and every time we complete a high site build i will publish into this thread and my call center staff will call you and let you know you now have coverage available.

Mike

Ok so I finally had BitCo out (on 11th Nov 2014) to do the LOS and it passed, installation was professionally completed and as per their policy the link has to be soak tested. Was informed that it may take up to a maximum of 7 days for the tests to be completed and my line activated.

I now wait the minimum 48 hours quoted by Bitco support agent Jaco to see if it passes and whether it will be handed over.

All tests after installation by the installation technician showed promising signal strength and bit rates in the rain!

Let's see how this pans out...posting from a 3g crappy connection.

Great to hear you got your link installation! Welcome to the network

Hopefully you will get handover soon and get rid of that crappy 3G:)

other WISP

Is there any other good WISP around? I'm Swiss and not regularly in the country, and they want a work permit to give you an internet access?

Thanks

Basically this is 2mb uncapped for R900... I stream more than an hour a day and I am sure, so does everyone else. 2mb is good for sd streaming. Unconvinced...

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, clearly you didn't see the part where BitCo said they are reviewing their FUP.

It's not "basically 2mb uncapped for R900", it's a 5mb link with a FUP designed to protect the network and other users from people that intend to abuse their links and download non-stop.

If you aren't interested in getting the service or have the service already, why comment in the review thread at all?

Wrong thread to post in, ask the qeustion in the relevant section, this section is for BitCo feedback.

If you can only watch youtube or streaming for 1 hour and then it throttles you it is only a 2meg connection. Streaming is not abuse! Downloading can be seen as abuse maybe.

If you pay R900 then you expect to browse and view youtube at any time as much as you want and you expect that torrents will be shaped...what this forum is saying that you can do what you want for an hour and then you must wait so someone else can browse for and hour.????

I'm really interested in this service but before I sign a 2 year contract I want some clarity.. This is not available here or on the website.

Maybe Bitco can answer the question correctly for once.

Kind regards.

The thread is full of feedback, even BitCo mentioned they are reviewing their FUP, did you not see that bit?

Just like you expect to be able to browse and YouTube as much as you wish, other people deem to download for as long as much as they want, as "normal".

Have you dropped the BitCo reps a PM and sent off a email to their support?

Clearly a processing error on your part... Can state it more simply. Its 2mb uncapped with 5mb bursts for 900 bucks.

With streaming "abusing" is no longer necessary. Abuse is only possible cause it is. Europe has 50mb lines as standard, wonder if they are worried about "abuse"?

Rationality would suggest that I am looking into it, it might also lead you to the fact that all is entitled to an opinion.

I do believe BitCo offers a month to month option if you purchase the kit for around R5K. No contract should mean no permit required. You can check their site for coverage. You could also look at LTE providers.

Awesome Mike thank you that's great news!!

My brother in law had a line of sight test done yesterday. We are living on the same premises and would like to go with Bitco and get rid of crap Mweb.

The installation team said they have line of site but didn't install anything. They needed to get authorization first but why not install if they have line of site?!?!??!?!

Sometimes if the highsite is too far, or is known to have interference it needs to be cleared with management.

I ordered my 10 mb package 3 weeks ago and the link finally went in on on Tuesday. Now just waiting for the "soaking" period to be over.

The installation crew was excellent and went above and beyond. They actually told me my signal strength was excellent, one of the best they've seen -51db. Not sure why it would take 3 days to "soak" but I guess that's just how it goes.

I have one request though. I would like to take the provided linksys home router out of the equation. I have a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter PoE and 3 UniFi AP's that provide coverage to my whole property. I am happy with the provided Cisco smart switch however I don't want to go through yet another router to access the internet and have another WiFi station possibly interfering with my existing equipment.

Mike, please let me know if this is possible.
