BitCo Consumer Review

I'm getting pretty pissed off with Bitco atm, and getting close to the point where I'm going to lose all faith in them, and when that happens I'm going to be a walking talking bad advisement for them, its been almost a year, and I've on and off been sitting with the same packet loss issues, only difference is, as time goes by, its getting worse and worse, at the beginning it was like 2-3% loss, now its almost always at a constant 30%

And Bitco's response is going to quickly insinuate that the problem lies with the games severs, but sadly no one else I know gets packet loss issues when playing counter strike

Have the exact same problem with Destiny, very frustrating.

Hi Guys,

The problem experienced with Destiny is probably related to the ports not being optimized on our Network.

Our support team is working with a customer and doing testing, i am confident the issue will be resolved shortly.

Can i ask you to please support support requests about this so as soon as the team was optimized the ports you will receive a notification.

Mike

Hey guys

needing some help here. Haven't heard from Garth in a while. Not sure who to contact but calling the support line after hours doesn't work for normal subscribers like us.

After yesterdays electrical storm, I suspect that my dish was damaged by a nearby strike. It is on and I can connect to the equipment but I don't have internet connection. I have restarted the switcher and router numerous times. I even left it off for a bit. Nothing. I tried calling support but nothing. Do they not have a 24 hour support like many of the other providers for times like these?

So now I am using my 3G in the only corner of the house that it really works in hope to get some sort of a reply because the 99% uptime for this month will have been tarnished as I cannot get hold of them. They need to look into this.

I have spoken with someone else in my complex that also has Bitco and his connection is up and running. So not the high-site that is down. Please help if possible.

Thanks guys

Hi Preacher,

Sorry to hear that you got hit by lightning

Our support team monitors the links so they should have contacted you on the next business day to confirm why your connection was down.

If you have logged a support request a team will respond and replace all the equipment at no charge to you.

We currently do residential client side repairs during business hours, high sites would be 24/7

We are in the process of restructuring our residential support working hours and we will be posting an update shortly

Please can you send us a PM with an update as to where we are in the process of repair?

Mike

And now it's back up...

Hi Senshi,

Please can you send us a PM with your support ticket number so we can investigate the history on your link and associated up-time?

That should not be happening with your link so we would like to investigate further & pull some reports

We strive for a 99% operational up time so this kind of problem needs to be quickly resolved

Mike

Storms?

Had a massive hail storm yesterday afternoon. Though my connection never dropped. It does normally when there is heavy thunderstorms but then only for around 10 minutes then it's up again.

Hi Pitbull,

you are correct if the storm cell with hail is heavy enough for the Line of sight to be blocked you could experience degraded service or a small bit of downtime.

It is very rare for a storm cell to be large enough to drop the connection completely but can happen over small area's

Mike

So today I have another odd situation, not FUP'd but I have 20-30ms + latency local.

Restarted router, switch, dish, no luck.

I normally avg around 4-8ms ping and my local games average around 12-16ms. I'm trying to play Quake Live now with a 30-40ms ping.

What is going on guys?

Hi Senshi,

Thanks for the post.

it looks like Google had a few small latency issues from their content delivery node in Johannesburg.

i see latency spikes as per your post at 6th December @15:00 - 15:03 , 20:53 - 20:59 7th December 11:05 - 11:09

maximum latency was around 24ms

its all clear now and back to normal

Please let us know if you experience any further spikes in latency?

Mike

Oh the torture that 30-40ms must bring :p try playing fps games with a constant 30% packet loss, BITCO SUCKS FOR FPS GAMES!!!!!!!!!!

HI Wikkels88,

your issue is certainly isolated and as per all our previous correspondents sounds like the radio interference is back in full force

i will chat to support team now about making adjustments to the link to improve the packet loss issues

i will be in contact tomorrow to personally discuss it and way forward

Mike

This thread is 166 pages long, I think it's time for BitCo to have it's own sub-forum :)

How is the bitco service for online streaming, I am not a heavy downloader but we do watch streaming services as our main source of entertainment.

My only reason at this point for moving is the on-going ADSL line synch problem and exchange congestion that is getting worse month by month. I can no longer wait for Telkom to possibly, maybe, one-day in the future or never upgrade the exchange etc in our area. Seeing that it is not an affluent enough area I am not hopeful at all.

I would like to know as well, but people seem to be avoiding the question. That doesn't really bode well :P

Streaming is my only media source. I don't download anything anymore. Subscription to Hulu and Netflix, and haven't looked back.

What speed do you have? Do they apply throtteling if you streamed for one hour or more?

Seems no one really wants to comment on anything. I have sent a PM to a rep also regarding the terms and conditions of a site survey and no response either (sent last night).
Oh well will try and pray to the ITC gods and sacrifice a few microchips that Telkom may sort out my port issue and the congestion problem on the exchange.

As per Sparky_za comment this may be a blessing in disguise, lets see what everyone has to comment first on the FUP and streaming.

First FUP is rubbish, stream 1080p for about an hour then get FUPd. Heard nothing yet about new FUP

Sent upgrade request today for a 10mbps (so I can actually get 5mbps)

Get home around 5pm, start watching some stuff and by 7pm I am FUPd. No more HD and loading other pages has a noticeable effect on 2mbps with streaming.

Apart from that I have no issues and this may very well be the best internet option available next to actually having fiber.

I don't know if the new FUP has been implemented on all links, I've been on the trial for a long time, and haven't actually hit the FUP, unless I did a mega download (36 gigs :erm: ).
4-5 hours I guess, then maybe it starts slowing?..
I watch a lot of streaming, and not once did I breach the FUP, I simply don't have the time to watch movies for 5 hours straight.

Streaming works brilliantly. I am on a 5Mbps line and have no issues streaming YouTube, Hulu+ , Netflix and other services.

I get HD / high resolution video as well.

I hope this answers your questions. I have been with BitCo now since November 2014...and I am a happy customer. No complaints.

Cool, thanks. Will try. If I get FUP'ed by streaming I'm going to haunt you :D
